Chapter 17
The whole plane ride to California, Lataya was nervous, about everything. She wasnt sure if she should be going to Marshall like this when she had just broke up with him a few days ago. But she did have the ticket that she never got around to cashing, and Marshall did say that he would be there for her and she could go to him with anything no matter what...
...But, it felt like she was using him, which she wasnt. It felt like she was just going to him when she didnt have Matt, like he was second best or something. And he wasnt second, he would never be second to her. She realized now that she loved him. She would never use him, although, from his point it might look like she was. She started having second thoughts.
What was she going to do? Just, show up at his hotel room? Expect him to take her back? She looked out the plane window, and leaned her head against the cold glass, taking a deep breath. She couldnt believe that she was flying all the way out to California to tell the man that she loved, that she loved him. As that thought hit her, she had another one.
She was insane. In-Fucking-Sane. She was flying thousands of miles to apologize to Marshall and tell him how much she loved him. She didnt know if she should do this...But then she pulled out the note he wrote her.
He was there if she needed him, no matter what. Just like he said. It had always been that way, hadnt it? She felt so strange. Maybe she should ask someone elses advice on this first. But who? Who the fuck could she ask? She didnt have any friends in Detriot, because she had been in the hospital so long, and then met Matt. She thought she didnt need friends since she had him. She hung out with Matt and his friends, she didnt get her own. The only people she knew in Detriot, was Marshall, and DeShaun.
DESHAUN! She could go see DeShaun! She could ask him if he thought she was totally crazy, and get some advice. She decided to go straight to DeShauns hotel room, and ask him what she should do. She hoped that he was at the hotel, and not around the city, she would never find him. Or worse, what if Marshall found her before she found DeShaun?
When the plane landed, she got off and got her bag and waited a while for a cab to go to the hotel. While she was waiting at the airport, she went over to the pay phone and put a quarter in, luckily Marshall had written down DeShauns phone number on the note. She dialed, and waited as she heard the cell ringing.
"Hey, is that track the last one we doin today Dre?" DeShaun asked. D12 were in the studio with Dr Dre producing some new tracks for their newest album, and it was late. Almost midnight. They were all tired and wanted to go back to the hotel to sleep.
"Yeah, this is it for tonight I think." Dre nodded.
"Can you replay it so I can hear it?" Marshall asked from inside a glass recording booth. Dre nodded and pressed a few buttons, and suddenly Kunivas voice flooded the ears of everyone with headphones on. Proof sat there, listening to the song play over again, when he heard his cell phone ring.
Everyone looked at DeShaun, his cell phone had the rig to So Fresh, So Clean, by Outkast on it. He took the headphones off and picked up the phone. "Yeah?" He asked.
"DeShaun?"
"Laya?" He asked, plugging his free ear with his finger and walking out the door of the studio so he could hear her better.
"Yeah, its me."
"Where are you?"
"In an airport in LA..." She said slowly and then cleared her throat.
"LA?!" DeShaun exclaimed in surprise. "Thats where I am now too."
"Yea, I know. Marshall bought me this plane ticket, but anyways, DONT TELL HIM IM HERE! Please?!" She pleaded. "Ill explain later but I need to talk to you and my cabs gonna be here any minute."
"Where are you going?"
"The hotel that ur staying at. Are you there?" She asked.
"Naw, Im in Dres studio." He said casually, glancing around him.
"WHAT?! DR DRE!?" Lataya schreeched, causing a few people at the airport to look at her. She cleared her throat and calmed herself down. "I mean, um...thats cool and not unusual. You know, since Im not obsessed with him, Im not gonna scream."
"Uh, huh..." DeShaun said slowly. "Look, your scaring me. Just playin! Aight yor going to the hotel Im gonna be at? Ill leave the studio now then. Meet me in the lobby aight girl? I think I can get out of here now because Dre said this was the last track they putting down. Ill say I feel sick or something."
"You ARE sick."
"I know." He said proudly. "Anyway Ill see you in like 15 minutes." He said.
"Okay see ya."
"Peace." DeShaun said, hanging up.
He put the phone in his pocket and walked into the studio again. He glanced at Marshall in the booth, and breifly wondered why he couldnt tell him that she was in LA. He shook the thought and told them all that he had to take care of some business and that he would talk to them tommorow or something, and they seemed to accept that.
He drove back to the hotel, one of the body gaurds went with him, even though he hated having security. But he needed it, thats what everyone told him. But he was so used to defending himself, that he would forget thats what the security was for. It was a pain always haveing someone trail your ass wherever you went, always following you around. He always told them to stay a good ways away from him, he didnt want it interrupting him when he was at clubs, trying to get some chicks.
They got back to the hotel, and met up with Lataya in the lobby. She only had one bag, and it was slung over her shoulder. She looked tired and like she wasnt feeling well at all, but she also looked really glad to see him.
"Hey girl!" DeShaun said. She smiled meakly and hugged him, holding back tears. She didnt know why she wanted to cry. Maybe everything that happened that afternoon. But she wasnt going to, she didnt want to cry, at least not over Matt.
"Hey D." She sighed and they pulled apart.
"Lets go upstairs and talk aight? You okay?" He asked as they started up the stairs, the body gaurd beside them.
"Fine." She lied, and nodded.
"Okay." He said, and let it go for a while. The body gaurd walked them up the stairs to DeShauns room, and DeShaun let Lataya into his room, and then talked to the body guard for a second, and then entered the room behind Lataya, shutting it behind him.
"Aight." He said walking over to the minifridge in the corner. "Want a beer?" He asked, holding up a Heineken bottle.
"Sure." She said, sitting down on the couch and watching as he took 2 beers from the fridge and walked over to her. He handed her a beer and reached over to the table and got a bottle opener, opening her bottle, then his, and taking a seat next to her.
"You lucky I aint got no bitch up in here girl. Big Proof always got a bitch, but your just special." He joked.
"Okay, you wanna take your head out of your ass now?" She asked, grinning at him.
"Hey hey, such vulgar language." He laughed, and after a second his expression turned serious. "So you wanna tell me what the fuck is up with you? And why are you in California?" He asked.
"Okay, see, you know whats going on with me and Marshall? He told you right?" She asked. He nodded. "Okay see, he gave me this plane ticket to Cali, back when we were fooling around or going out or whatever you wanna call it. And like, I broke it off with him because I felt guilty, cheating on Matt." She looked down. "Or at least thats what I told him."
"Uh, okay." He nodded.
"But like, see, I was so happy when I saw him again at your party D, it was SO unexpected, and I was SO completely and utterly excited and happy. I mean, I should probably be mad at him but I dont know why. God, I dont know what happened. He took me out to dinner to talk, we went driving, he was so sweet and funny and charming!" She grinned, despite herself.
"Yeah thats Em for ya." DeShaun rolled his eyes. All this girl talk was getting old. "So then what?"
"Well, I suppose he told you that I forgot my key, and had to like, stay with him. Thats when we ended up fucking again..." She sighed. "Well, I didnt forget my key. I purposely put it in my purse and pretended like I didnt have it."
"Why?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Because, I didnt want to go home yet, and I knew that either way I would have to be with Marshall for a while longer. So, I did, and like, I dont know. I really liked that night, like, whoa. I dont know, I cant explain this!" She sighed exasperatedly and looked over at DeShaun who was grinning and nodding. "Shut the fuck up!" She laughed and finished the rest of her beer. "This aint about sex, jeez. I mean, like, it WAS, but not so much."
"You are making no sense." He shook his head. "Want another beer?"
She laughed and nodded and he got up and brang her another beer, and got another one for himself also. "Anyways, like, I just, I really like Marshall-no, I love him." She got the biggest adrenaline rush when she said that outloud, she didnt know if it was because of the fact that she had been drinking, or if it just felt so good to say. "I LOVE MARSHALL!" She grinned at DeShaun, who was staring at her like she was gonna explode at any second.
"Dont we all..." He trailed off and raised an eyebrow as she giggled and took another drink of the beer. Didnt take much to get her drunk, thats for sure.
"So D, I broke up with him. Because, I love him. I wanted to go back to Matt, because, love hurts. And I know Matt doesnt love me, and I dont love him, so how cna he possibly hurt me?! Thats why I went back to Matt. I love Marshall though, and I wanna be with Marshall!" She said said happily. "Forever!" She laughed.
"Um, yeah." He cleared his throat, finished his beer and opened a new one.
"So, today, I went home, and I wanted to go to bed," She continued. "So like," She laughed. "Guess why I couldnt go to bed?"
"Uhm, I dont know?" DeShaun grinned, watching her get herself drunk. She was funny drunk. Her eyes were wide and she was laughing every 5 minutes.
"Because, MY FIANCEE WAS FUCKING HIS COUSIN IN MY BED!" She burst out laughing and dropped the empty beer bottle onto the couch, covering her face with her hands and laughing hysterically.
"His cousin? Damn, dont you fuck your fiance? How horny does a man have to get before he does that with his cousin?!" DeShaun asked in disgust.
"It wasnt his cousin! It was his girlfriend, but he told me it was his cousin!" She laughed again. He chuckled, although he didnt exactly figure how it was funny. He heard a choked sob, instead of a laugh, and looked at her. Her hands were over her face and she was crying.
"Whats the matter?" He asked, alarmed by her sudden change of mood.
"I just, my fiancee was cheating on me!" She sobbed, falling against his shoulder.
He put an arm around her and cleared his throat. "But I thought you didnt care because you loved Marshall?" He asked softly.
Immediatly she stopped crying and sat up, and looked at him for a second. "Oh yeah. Thats true. But I broke up with Marshall, what if I go back to him now and he thinks that Im just playing him and he doesnt take me back?" She asked, wiping a hand across her eye, smearing the tears so it was easier to see.
"He wont. Do you know how many times hes taken Kim back? Or, gone back to Kim? Seriously, you dont know how much he talks about you girl. Every other word is Lataya. You always hear guys saying great things about their girls when they are going out, right? Well then when they break up, the truth comes out." DeShaun said, patting her back.
"So what kind of things does he say now that we broke up?" She asked.
"The same things he says about you when you were going out." He sighed. "He loves you."
"No, Im useless. He doesnt love me. No one does." She whined.
"Dont say that. He does love you, you have no idea. I love you too, you know your my girl. You always been my girl." He said, feeling terrible.
"Really?" She looked up.
"Uh huh." He nodded. "And I think you should talk to Marshall. He would love to know your here. You should definatly tell him how you feelin girl. Aight?"
"Okay. But, not tonight. Tommorow." She said, sniffling.
"Aight, tommorow." He said, nodding. "Meanwhile, how are you feeling?"
"Better. Im not playing Marshall, D." She bit her lip and leaned against him. "Im not."
"I know." He sighed. "He knows. Dont worry about it." He said, sighing.
"Can I sleep on your couch tonight D?" She asked, out of no where.
"Sure, what do I care. You tired?"
"No." She shrugged.
"Wanna watch tv or something?" He asked.
"Sure." She nodded.
"Aight." He said, he got up and turned on the tv, and picked up another beer from the fridge while he was up. He handed the beer to Lataya, and she opened it.
"Thanks."
"Dont mention it." He replied. He turned on the tv and they sat down on the bed, watching music videos and talking, and drinking.
About 2 hours later, Lataya and DeShaun were piss drunk. Lataya was laying on her back, her head resting on DeShauns stomach as a pillow, a empty beer bottle in her hand, resting against her hip as she stared at a Limp Bizkit music video, Boiler. DeShaun was laying beside her on his side, facing Lataya, his elbow propping up his head, eating potatoe chips.
"Wouldnt you like to fuck him?!" Lataya said, staring at Fred Durst. "Hes so hot."
"Hes a pussy. You think hes hot? Hes so fat that when he goes to the zoo, they feed him instead of the elephants." DeShaun said, shoving a handful of chips in his mouth and laughing.
"THATS SO MEAN!" Lataya cracked up laughing, and pushed DeShauns shoulder playfully.
"Hes so fat that when he walks down the street, people say, 'OH so THATS where potholes come from!"
"How can you say that?!"
"Ive said worse to his face. The stupid prick." He shrugged. "You dont fucking mess wit D12!" He shouted pushing Lataya off him as retaliation.
"Yeah. Ive notice. Jus look at what happened to Esham!" Lataya giggled. DeShauns eyes widened and he cracked up laughing.
"THAT FUCKER HAD IT COMING!" He said, laughing hysterically.
"You hospitalized him!" She laughed.
"So what? Hes aight now, a little bit more fucked up then he was before, but hes ok. Unfortunatly." He laughed.
"I still wanna fuck Fred Durst."
"Ew." DeShaun rolled his eyes and threw a chip at her. "Sick fuck."
"Shut up. Hes added to the long list of guys Ive had a crush on." She decidedly.
"Who would be on that? Lets see...Marshall, Dom, Fred Durst," He listed. "There was more, you was boy crazy as a kid. I just dont remember they all names."
"Ah so what?"
"You ever had a crush on me!?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "You had one on everyone else!" He defended when she laughed at him.
"Sure. You wish." She said laughing.
"Did you?"
"Maybe."
"DID YOU?!" He asked, bursting into laughter.
"OK IN 6TH GRADE!" She yelled at him. "But that was it!" She said defensively.
"Seriously?" He asked, more solemn.
"Yeah, way back then though." She said quietly.
"Whoa, I had a crush on you in 8th." He admitted. "When you were going out with Dom."
"Whoa, are you fucking around?" She asked doubtfully.
"No." He cleared his throat. "Yous a fine chicken." He leaned back, his arms propping himself up in back of him. "I always wondered what it would be like to kiss you too."
"Really?" She asked warily.
"Yeah." He said.
She shrugged and leaned up, kissing him on the mouth. He raised an eyebrow, finding this sort of odd at first. The affects of the alcohol were already taking over him, so his reactions were a little slow. After a second, he closed his eyes and kissed her back. They kissed for a minute, and she leaned back slowly.
"So, now you know." She said, licking her lips.
DeShaun just stared at her. Marshall was right, she was an amazing kisser. It took him a second before he leaned back towards her, kissing her again. She was surprised, but she kissed back. He wasnt shy, at least not around Lataya. He didnt really see her as a real girl, she was just like his best friend. This wasnt normal behavior for them, but he wasnt shy. They knew each other way to well to be shy around each other. He put one hand on her cheek gently, and ran his tongue along her bottom lip, and she opened her mouth slightly wider, allowing his tongue to find hers.
After about a minute and a half, they had totally lost it. They didnt know what they were doing, they were drunk, and things were getting more serious than either one of them intended. Never in their lives, did either of them think that they would be doing this with the other person. Their relationship was always purely platonic, best friends, and nothing more. They had grown up together, it was like they were brother and sister.
DeShaun leaned forward more, pushing her backwards until he was on top of her. Lataya couldnt believe that she was doing this with DeShaun Holton. They were best friends when they were kids, now 10 years later...
"Mm," She tried to talk as he moved his hands up her shirt and unclasped her bra. He pulled his mouth away from hers and started kissing down her neck.
"What?" He asked, inbetween his kisses, his hands carressing her breasts.
"Do you, think we should, be doing this?" She asked taking a deep breath.
"Do you?" He asked, looking up at her. She didnt even think before she answered.
"Yeah." She said, reaching up and cupping his face, bring it down to meet hers and kissing him on the mouth again.
