Crush

Chapter 16

"Aww fuck." Marshall said, rolling over, away from Lataya, who sighed. The phone was ringing. He reached over and grabbed the phone as Lataya pulled the sheet over herself. "Yeah?!" Marshall asked, the annoyance showing in his voice.

"Hey baby." Kim said, as calmly as she could.

"Hi." He said, trying to hide the fact that he was out of breath. He glanced at Lataya, laying next to him on her side, holding the sheet over her, and tracing a finger down his chest boredly. He took a deep breath and watched her hand trail around on his skin.

"So, it was just you and Hailie at the mall today huh?" She asked.

"Yeah." Marshall said shortly, distracted by Lataya.

"Okay, well she said that someone else was there, I was just thinking, why would you guys have different stories?"

"Um well yeah DeShaun was there for a little bit." He said, cursing in his mind. He forgot to tell Hailie not to tell Kim Latayas name. Hopefully Hailie didnt mention her, but he doubted that somehow.

"Really? Because she said it was a girl."

"There wasnt no girl with us, besides Hai that is." He lied. Lataya could sense his tension, and she knew it was Kim, so she sighed and rolled over onto her back, staring at the ceiling and waiting for him to finish talking on the phone.

"Really? Not even a girl named LATAYA?!" She finally asked. Marshall bit his bottom lip and looked over at Lataya. She looked so hot right there, wearing nothing, with just a sheet covering her body.

"I um, ok so, there was a girl named Lataya there." He sighed. "But relax because we are only friends."

"Its that bitch from school aint it!?" Kim asked. "God Marshall, how can you go back to being friends with that TRASH!?"

"Hey. Fuck off Kim." Marshall said, sitting up. Anger boiling in his viens. Lataya took a deep breath, knowing that Marshall had probably been caught.

"Your probably doing that right now. God, is that why it took you so long to answer the phone? Is she there with you Marshall? UGH! That explains why your out of breath! Although, who would have thought she would be good enough in bed to take your breath away?" Kim said, inspecting her nails.

"Kim, fuck you." He said, narrowing his eyes. "Yeah, she IS here. And yes, we just FUCKED." He said, knowing it would piss Kim off. Latayas eyes widened and she sat up beside him, giving him a look like he was insane.

"Ugh! To much infor-fucking-mation. Marshall, shes insane. She was in a mental hospital! Your cheating on me with a fucking PHYSCOPATH. I cant believe your cheating on me. I want a divorce Marshall, you fucking ASSHOLE!"

"Good. Because I dont wanna be married to you, you fucking whore. Your like, like, a MALE VIBRATOR!" He yelled. Lataya pursed her lips together and looked away, fighting back laughter. Marshall almost laughed, but concentrated on his anger.

"MARSHALL MATHERS!" Kim yelled in disgust.

"Latayas not like you Kim. I fucking LOVE her. I always loved her. I never stopped. Your a distraction. Now if you will excuse me, I must go back to fucking LATAYA WOODSON, the woman that I LOVE!" Marshall yelled, hanging up the phone and looked at Lataya who was looking away from him.

Lataya sighed and stared at the wall. What Marshall said was sort of sweet, in an odd, disturbing way. He had told Kim that he loved her. That meant he was serious about her, to come clean with Kim. She felt bad, because as much as she wanted to be with Marshall, a part of her still wanted to be with Matt. She didnt know why. Matt treated her horribly, and Marshall didnt. But she just felt like it wouldnt work between her and Marshall.

She knew how man times Marshall and Kim had come close to getting a divorce. What made her think that he was actually serious about her? He would date her for a few months, she would be his rebound girl, and then after a month or so, where was she? Back to square one. Marshall would go back to Kim, and she would be left in the dust, again. So, she couldnt do this. She didnt have a problem being with him if he wasnt serious, if it was just a fling. But she didnt want a real relationship with him.

She couldnt do that. He would be gone alot, he said so himself, and she didnt want to be away from him at all, let alone for weeks at a time. She figured that she should just break it off now, before it got to serious. She shouldnt lead him on, she was afraid that she had led him on long enough already.

"Helloooo?" Marshall waved a hand in front of her face and she snapped out of her thoughts. "Did you hear me?"

"What?" She looked at him.

"I said, Kim knows. Hailie must have told her that you came with us today, Kim put two and two together. I dont really mind. I want everyone to know. I love you." He said. She bit her bottom lip and tried not to cry. She had gotten herself in too deep, she had gotten to attached, and she had to end it now.

"Marshall, I-I cant do this. Im sorry." She said, getting up and wrapping the sheet around her, finding her clothes that had been strewn about the room since they got in the door. She picked up her clothes, putting each item on as she got it, and then looked over at Marshall, who had put on his boxers. He was standing by the bed, picking up his pants.

"Cant do what?" He asked distractedly, putting one leg in his pants.

"This, us. Listen." She sighed and watched him button his pants up and zip his fly. "I just, I just cant do this. We went to far. We went way to far, I thought this was going to be just, a fling or something, damn. Im really sorry Marshall. You have no idea."

"What the FUCK?" He asked, more hurt than angry. He was still mad, he was ready to divorce Kim for Lataya, he wanted to give it all to her, be there for her all the time, not have to worry about Kim. He loved Lataya, and he wanted everyone to know. And now she said she couldnt do this with him anymore? He had totally lost Kim, thinking that it would be alright because Lataya was there, and now, Lataya wasnt.

"Look, its just, Im with Matt." She shook her head.

"HES CHEATING ON YOU!" He exclaimed in anger, feeling embarrassed. His eyes searched the room for his shirt, and he saw it on the floor next to the couch. He walked over to it and grabbed it up off the ground.

"Yeah, I know but, I just, I dont know Marshall. Just, take me home okay?" She said.

"Fine. Got your stuff?" He asked calmly, not wanting to yell at her. Maybe things were moving to fast for her, at least he knew that in the back of her mind, she would know that he did love her. And maybe he was better off without Kim.

"Yeah." She looked down at the purse in her hands. She felt horrible.

"Aight. Lets go then." He said, trying his best to hide the hurt in his voice, to no avail. She kept her eyes on the ground, not wanting to look at him. He drove her home, in silence. The only sounds from passing cars and the low hum of the radio.

About 10 minutes later, he pulled up out front of Latayas house. Matts car wasnt in the driveway, he was probably still out at the clubs with Elena. Lataya looked at Marshall cautiously, and opened the car door slowly.

"Marshall?" She said before she got out.

"Yeah?" He asked, looking down at the steeringwheel.

She leaned over and gave him a hug. He looked like he needed one. He was surprised, he was expecting her to say something to him like, "Im really sorry," but she hugged him? He hugged her back, enjoying the hug for what would probably be the last time. He took a deep breath as she pulled away from him after a minute, and she smiled weakly at him.

"Thanks for everything Marshall." She said quietly.

"Dont thank me." He shook his head.

"Im really sorry. I just," She sighed. "Your probably really confused, huh?"

"Yeah." He shrugged. "Dont worry about it."

"Look, I just think that things went, a little to fast. And, its not your fault, okay? Its just, we should never have slept together in the first place, Im engaged, your married-"

"Well, now my wife wants a divorce." He sighed.

"Okay, well, Im really sorry Marshall." She sighed. "I guess, um, I should go." She looked down and started to get up out of the car, when Marshall remembered something.

"Wait!" He said, opening the glovebox, before she could shut the car door. He pulled out a envelope and handed it to her. "Here."

"Whats this?" She started to open it and he closed it again, knowing that if he was still here when she found out what it was, she would give it back to him, and wouldnt take it. He wanted her to have it, even if she didnt use it, she could exchange the ticket for cash or something, and he knew that she needed it, because she wasnt all that well off.

"Just take it ok?" He said, pulling her door closed and starting the car up again. She gave him a puzzled look, and then nodded.

"Okay." She nodded slowly and sighed. "Bye Marshall."

"See ya." He said, biting his bottom lip and watching her walk up the front lawn, over the springy grass to the front door. When she was in the house, he pulled the car out into the street, and drove away.

Lataya walked into the house, the tiny kitchen that was a mess with dishes and papers, trash bags and empty pizza boxes. She hated coming home to this house. It was so, empty. She set her purse down on the table and sat down on a chair, holding Marshalls envelope in her hand, turning it over and over in her hands.

She turned it to the back of it and broke the seal with her finger nail, sliding it along the paper. She peeked into the envelope, and pulled out a plane ticket, round trip, first class to Los Angeles, California. Her jaw dropped. What was he thinking? She thought that she had made it clear that they couldnt see each other anymore, but why would he give her this, right now?

She sighed and put the tickets back in the envelope, she had to give this back to him. She couldnt accept this. She noticed a peice of paper folded up, put along side the ticket, and she raised an eyebrow and picked it up, carefully unfolding it and holding it up to read it.

Lataya, Hey baby. Heres a roundtrip ticket to CALI for ya, just like I said. Oh, and I know you wanted to buy it, but, no. I beat ya to it. HAHA! N heres the name of the hotel and my room number and phone number to the room, and my cell and my pager, and DeShauns room number, pager and cell just incase you cant get hold of me for some reason. Its all on the back of this note. I cant wait to see you in Cali girl. You know, Im here if you need me, NO MATTER WHAT! I know I said that last night, but Ill say it again and again. Love, Marshall

She sighed and put the note in her jeans back pocket. Why did he do this to her? He was so, Marshall. There was no other word to explain him except for Marshall. He really loved her, and thats what she was afraid of. She didnt know why, but she didnt care, all she knew was that she was scared of him loving her, REALLY loving her.

Maybe that was why she wanted to be with Matt. She knew that he didnt really love her. It was so obvious. And she didnt love him either. She didnt love anyone. Did she?

She walked into the livingroom and threw herself down on the couch, and tried to take a tiny nap, before Matt came home with Elena. All she could think of was Marshall though. And she didnt want to think of Marshall.

Its not like she could help it. She thought of the day they had today. Going to the mall, having lunch, roller skating. She hadnt had that much fun, since she was a kid. And even then most of her fun days turned out to be horrible. The hospital wasnt fun at all. They werent allowed to leave unless someone was with them, but where Lataya was, she wasnt allowed to leave at all. She saw the same people, everyday, no tv, no radio, no anything, she just sat in a big room with 2 bed and a dresser with different changes of the same kind of clothes. Big white night gowns, and long flannel pants, and a girl in the corner that had whole conversations with plants.

Marshall was right. She didnt belong there. She had missed the best years of her life by sitting in that hell hole. She thought growing up in detriot was bad, at least she was free there. She didnt have to be followed around by a nurse. She wanted to be out doing stuff with her friends, or at least the friends that she had. She hadnt had many, and she still didnt.

Her thoughts drifted back to Marshall. The way he smiled at her, the way he laughed, the way he touched her, the way he held her, kissed her, loved her. He was so amazing. He was so charming and sweet, and funny, and disturbing. And sometimes he told her things that she REALLY didnt need to know. He was so great with Hailie, he was a great father, and great at everything else he did. He was just so perfect. Even his flaws were perfect. The way he licked his lips CONSTANTLY, the way he swore at old people in cars, he had a short patience level. He wouldnt be perfect if he didnt have imperfections. Thats what made him so perfect.

No one is perfect, until you fall in love with them. So, did she love Marshall? She sighed, and drifted off to sleep on that thought.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lataya sighed, she had just got back from the grocery store, and she was tired. The first thing she wanted to do, was go straight to bed, and sleep. She was feeling really depressed, ever since she had stopped seeing Marshall. He had left for California yesterday, which would make her plane ticket good for today. She hadnt gotten around to exchangeing it. She was going to do that today, but she was going to do it later.
She walked into the house and carried the bags into the kitchen. She only got a few things, soda, hamburger meat, and ice cream. She put the stuff away and threw her jacket down on the chair. She yawned and tok the scrunchy out of her hair, letting it fall down past her shoulders.
She couldnt wait to go lay down and sleep, maybe she would feel better when she woke up. She kept telling herself that after she slept she would feel better, but it had been 4 days, and she still felt like shit. Her stomach was killing her, and she didnt know why. Her head was pouding, she just couldnt wait to get in bed.
She wondered briefly where Matt and Elena were, but shrugged it off. They were probably out somewhere, although she had seen Matts car in the driveway. She was too tired to care. She started up the stairs, ready to fall asleep right now.
She reached for the doorknob of her bedroom and turned it, opening it to her bedroom. It was small, and not very neat, but then again Matt wasnt exactly a neat person.
She looked into the room and nearly had a heart failure. Matt was in bed, right next to Elena. Lataya gasped and a hand shot up to her mouth. Matt looked up from Elena and saw Lataya, and he immediatly scrambled up off Elena and stood up, holding a sheet around himself. Elena did the same thing, a little afraid of Lataya, although she wouldnt admit it.
"MATT!" Lataya said in chock. "IN OUR OWN BED? GOD, I KNEW YOU WERE CHEATING, BUT FUCK! THATS, THATS, FUCKING SICK!"
"Lataya, lemme explain!" Matt said quickly.
"Explain? No, no thank you. And you," She turned to Elena, and glanced her up and down. "One of your boobs is showing." She said simply. Elenas eyes widened and she pulled the sheet around her, covering herself even more.
"Lataya!" Matt said, walking over to her as she pulled a bag from the closet and began to filling it with clothes from the dresser. "What are you doing?"
"Packing." She said simply.
"Where will you go? You dont have any other friends in Detriot except those rapper guys, and you said they left somewhere. C'mon baby, stay please?" He asked, trying to snake an arm around her.
"Get away from me. Go put some fucking clothes on you asshole." She said, grabbing clothes and dumping them into the bag.
"But baby," He protested.
"Dont call me that you sick fuck." She said. She wasnt going to cry, for some reason she expected this. It was no shock, she already cried for this.
"Where will you go?" He asked.
She shook her head, not knowing where she could go, until she picked up a shirt, and saw what was under it.
The envelope from Marshall. She bit her bottom lip and picked it up, putting it in her pocket and turning to look at Matt, hands on her hips. "California. And Im not coming back, at least not to you." She said, narrowing her eyes and wrenching off her engagement ring. She looked over at Elena. "Here bitch. Its yours." She threw it as hard as she could at Elena, and hit her in the leg. Elena cringed and Matts eyes were burning with anger.
"Lataya! What the fuck? I LOVE YOU!" He yelled, grabbing her arm as she turned to walk out of the room.
"You love me?" She asked, turning around. Her voice was tender and forgiving, and he smiled, relieved.
"Yes, I love you so much Lataya. Your everything to me." He said softly.
She blinked, and all the sudden burst into a fit of laughter. He looked confused, and looked to Elena, who shrugged. "You fucking loser. Did you actually think that you had a chance with me after this shit? I caught you motherfucker. I caught YOU. I dont need you. I can do better." She smirked. Immediatly Marshalls face popped into her mind. "And I have."
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Matt and Elena standing in the bedroom, sheets wrapped around them. She walked down the stairs, and out of the house. She walked down the street a ways, to the main road, and looked for a cab.
