Chapter 15
The next morning Marshall got up early and headed to the airport, picking up a ticket to Cali for the day after he leaves to go there, round trip, she was coming back on his flight. He was going to surprise her with it, partly because it would be fun to surprise her, and partly because he wanted to get the tickets before she could. He put them in the glove box to give to her tommorow, or later tonight, or whenever she left.
He pulled up out front of Latayas house, and beeped the horn. He didnt want to go up to the door, because he didnt want to see Matt or Elena, he was totally disgusted by them. A minute later, Lataya came running out of the house, carrying a purse over her shoulder, and jogged over to the car, getting in the passenger side and sitting down next to Marshall.
She smiled at him and kissed him. "Hey!"
"Hi." He said, admiring her. She looked great. She was wearing black bell bottom jeans, and a black tube top, that was low cut in the front, and exposed most of her stomach, showing off her belly button tattoo. She had on a black see through over shirt, that was open in the front, and a black messenger bag. Her hair was up in a bun on the top of her head, some hair hanging down, creating a frame around the most beautiful face he had ever seen. Her eyes were almond shaped and blue, her nose was slightly turned up, like a button nose. She had some glitter under her eyes, and her cheeks were naturally flushed, giving her skin the right complexion. "You look great." He said, looking her over again.
"Hehe, thanks." She giggled.
"You sure you dont wanna go back to my hotel room? I mean, Hailie will understand when shes older, believe me, she will." He said, taking a deep breath.
"Marshall!" She laughed. "Thats horrible! No, of course not." She sighed. "Unless you really think she would understand..." She joked.
He laughed and started the car. "When we get to Kims, just like, try your best not to be seen. Kay?" He asked, driving down the street and turning on 7 mile road.
"Sure thing." She nodded. "You know you just called it Kims, instead of your house?"
"Yeah. I do that alot, I forget I live there because I live in some fucking hotel so goddamn much." He sighed.
"Aww. Hun, dont worry about her." She sighed.
"I wont." He rolled his eyes. "Shes not worth it."
"No, shes not." She looked out the window, and changing the subject said, "So, what are we doing today?"
"I dunno, Hailie wanted to go rollerskating. I think we are gonna do that, Ill bring you two out for lunch too, and then I dunno maybe see a movie or something." He shrugged. "You think of that?"
"It sounds fun!" She grinned. She was so happy to be out of the house, and with Marshall, and to finally be meeting Hailie. She had looked forward to it all last night.
"Awesome, heres the street, um, I dont want Kim to see you, I dont know how she would react. It definatly wouldnt be one of those, happy reunions. Um, I dont know, just like, try not to be seen and I will be out the house as quick as I can, believe me." He said, pulling up out front of the house. Lataya nodded. He looked her over one last time, she looked so good, so completely sexy, he didnt want to leave her side. But he did.
Opening the car door, he trudged up the long walkway to the front porch, and opened the front door. It WAS his house after all. He walked into the front hall and looked around. "Hailie?! You ready to go? Im here!" He called, walking down the hallway into the kitchen.
"Hey Daddy!" Hailie said, hopping down off the chair and running over to him. He bent down and she reached out to hug him.
"Marshall." Kim said coldly, as if in greeting.
"Kim." He mocked her and made a face at her. "Hai, babe, you ready to go?"
"Yeah!" She chirped happily as he picked her up.
"Where are you bringing her?" Kim asked. She was sitting at the kitchen table, still in her bathrobe even though it was about 10AM, drinking coffee and eating a bagel and cream cheese. Her hair was pulled into a messy clip on the top of her head. The bathrobe came down to her mid thigh, obviously one more for looks than anything else. She was hot, he thought. But the only image that he could picture for some reason, was Lataya. He just imagined Latayas face where Kims was.
"Uh, Hailie where you wanna go?" He asked.
"The mall, OH! AND ROLLERSKATING!" She said eagerly.
"Aight, the mall and rollerskating." Marshall confirmed for Kim. Kim nodded.
"Okay. What time will you have her back here at?"
"Um, shes MY daughter also, why do I have to give you a time that I will have her back at?" Marshall asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I just want to know Marshall." Kim said, narrowing her eyes at him.
"Well how about whenever I want?" Marshall said, turning around and walking out of the room, Hailie clutching his shoulder.
"Bye mommy!" Hailie called.
"Bye Hai!" Kim yelled back right before Marshall slammed the door shut.
Lataya looked up, hearing the door shut and smiled as she saw Marshall and Hailie walking towards the car. Hailie was so cute, she had blonde hair, pulled up into tiny pigtails. She looked like Marshall, except had Kims nose and natural hair color. They reached the car and Hailie looked confused. Marshall set her down in the backseat and walked around to the front seat, getting in and closing the door behind himself.
"Aight Lataya, this is Hailie Jade. Hai, this is Lataya. My friend from when we were kids." Marshall introduced them as he turned the car on.
"Hi Hailie!" Lataya smiled at her.
"Hi." Hailie said, blinking. She thought it was just gonna be her and her daddy, she didnt know someone else was going to be there. She didnt have a problem with it though, Lataya might be kind of fun.
"So, girls, where to first?" Marshall asked, breaking the silence.
"The mall!" Hailie exclaimed, buckling her seatbelt.
"Ok, how about, we hit the mall, get lunch at the food court, head rollerskating, and then maybe a movie?" Marshall asked.
"Yeah!" Hailie said happily. "What movie?"
"I dunno yet. We can pick one at the theater, and if theres nothing we want to see there, we can get pizza. Hows that?" Marshall looked at Hailie in the rear view mirror to see that she was buckled up, before pulling out into the street.
"Cool." Hailie said. "Can you put the radio on?" She asked, glancing out the window.
"Yup." Marshall reached over and turned on the radio. He glanced at Lataya, who was sitting quietly in the front seat, looking out the window. He moved his hand across the seat, poked her in the arm, pulled his hand back and grinned at her when she turned around. "Why so quiet girls? I wanted ya'll to meet." Niether said anything. "Someone say something." He said, glancing at them.
"Um, did you ever think of how fun it is to say Aquarium?" Lataya asked.
Marshall laughed and raised an eyebrow. "You are a strange one." He grinned at her.
"Seriously though, say it!" She laughed.
"Aquarium." He said slowly. He raised both eyebrows. "Aquarium. Aquarium..."
"Aquarium." Hailie said from the back, giggling. "That is a funny word!"
"I know!" Lataya giggled.
Marshall sighed and grinned, glancing at Lataya who was smiling, and Hailie who was watching him drive. He felt, different for some reason. Like, he had Hailie, and now, he had Lataya. Both of them at the same time. He felt whole, for the first time in a long time. He really did love Lataya, he thought. Where did she get these things, Aquarium? He chuckled to himself, she was cute.
They finally arrived at the mall, the drive there was mostly in silence, occasionally Marshall would say something to Lataya or to Hailie, but they didnt really talk much, he couldnt quite figure out why. He decided that they were both probably shy, and he knew that by the time that he drove Hailie home tonight, they would be talking and laughing with each other.
At the mall, Hailie wanted to go in all kinds of stores, toy stores, clothes stores. Lataya helped them pick out a few outfits for her, and her and Hailie started talking about the clothes, which pleased Marshall. They seemed to really be getting along which was what he wanted to happen. He knew that they would love each other once they got past being shy.
"How about this one?" Lataya asked, holding up a green shirt in front of her. Hailie looked like she was deep in thought for a second, and then she shook her head.
"Naw...I think the blue one looked better with your eyes." She decided, holding out the same shirt, just in blue. Lataya took the shirt and held it up in front of her, and looked to the mirror to the right.
"Your right, it does make my eyes look brighter. Thanks Hailie. Im getting this one then." Lataya said, smiling at her refelection in the mirror.
"You girls almost ready for lunch? Im starving!" Marshall sighed, leaning against one of the walls in the store, swinging about 3 shopping bags, from other stores, boredly. He had been waiting for them to decide on which shirts they were going to buy, Hailie had known right off what she wanted, but her and Lataya had to go through whats seemed every shirt and pair of jeans in the store.
"Yeah, lets go." Lataya said, knowing how bored he was standing here.
They walked to the front of the store, and paid for the clothes. Marshall paid for Hailies, and tried to pay for Latayas, but she argued with him for a few minutes and he let her pay for herself. He liked that about her. She was independent, but not the annoying independent where he couldnt do ANYTHING for her, he liked doing things for her. All guys liked doing things for their girls. He sighed. He was starting to refer to her as 'his girl' now? She wasnt his girl. As much as it hurt him, she was Matts girl.
"Okay, so Im thinking we go to food court next, and then, rollerskating?" Marshall asked. He looked around at the mall. A few people were following them, and he had gotten asked for a few autographs. Lataya had gotten dirty looks, and Hailie got smiles. It wasnt to bad today, but it wasnt how he wanted it either. He wanted to walk around the mall with no worries about fans following him, someone being an asshole to him and trying to start a fight, just to see how tough Eminem was. He wasnt Eminem right now, he was Marshall, and he wanted time to spend with Hailie and Lataya without worrying about that.
"Yeah, Im hungry anyways." Hailie nodded.
"Me too." Lataya agreed.
Something across the top floor of the mall caught Marshalls eye, and his face lit up. "STOP!" He said immediatly, scaring Lataya and Hailie. They both jumped a mile at the random exclaimation, and looked at him like he was crazy. "Nike town." Marshall grinned.
"Oh no! Daddy!" Hailie groaned. "I HATE going in there!" She looked to Lataya. "He takes forever. Dads obsessed with Nike Town!"
Marshall laughed. "I am not!" He shook his head.
"Yes you are." Hailie raised both eyebrows. "You always buy stuff from there. Look." Hailie pointed to him. Sure enough he was wearing all nike brand clothes.
He had on a black hat with a nike sign on it, it was turned to the left slightly. His shirt was a big white tee shirt and a black over shirt that was open in the front, with the nike sign on the front pocket, jeans, and nike shoes. Lataya laughed.
"You are wearing like, EVERYTHING NIKE!" Lataya giggled.
"Hey! The pants are by phat farm!" He said defensively. Lataya laughed even harder, so did Hailie. "Hey shut up!" He laughed.
"Aight, we dragged him around the mall to our stores, its only fair we go in Nike Town." Lataya sighed.
"Yeah, its only fair." Marshall said quickly, and walked off in the direction of Nike Town, with Lataya and Hailie following closely behind him.
About a half an hour, and 200 dollars later, they left Nike Town. Lataya and Hailie knew how he felt when they picked out shirts and stuff, and they were glad to be getting out of that store. It was boring for them, when he looked at everything twice, and then a third time to decide what he wanted to buy, and he still couldnt decide, so he bought whatever he liked. They left the store and went straight to the food court.
They all got pizza, from the Pizza Hut place, and sat down to eat.
"So, your 6 huh?" Lataya asked Hailie.
"Yup." Hailie said proudly, and took a sip from her orange soda. She was actually starting to really like Lataya alot, she was nice, funny, Hailie liked alot of her dads friends.
"Thats cool." Lataya nodded and grinned at Marshall, next to her at the table.
"Hailie was born on Christmas, right Hai?" Marshall asked her.
"Yup, mommy and daddy said that Im the best Christmas present they ever got." Hailie smiled. She loved that as much as she did from the day they had said that to her.
"Thats so sweet." Lataya smiled and glanced at Marshall out of the corner of her eye.
He looked at her and nodded at Hailie. "Tell her when your birthday is."
"My birthday, is Christmas eve." Lataya sighed.
"Really?" Hailie looked up.
"Uh huh." Lataya nodded.
"So, then, your the best Christmas present that your mommy and daddy got too, right? Did they tell you that to?" Hailie asked eagerly. Latayas face fell, but she tried to disguise it with a grin.
"Yeah. They told me that too..." She lied and looked back down at her slice of pepperoni pizza, taking a bite out of it. Marshall glanced at her and cleared his throat, knowing damn well that her parents never said that to her.
"You guys almost done?" He asked, eating the last of the crust on his pizza. Lataya nodded, she had eaten the whole slice except for a tiny bit of the crust. The slices they gave out were huge, almost a quarter of the pizza. Hailie still had about half her crust left, so they waited until she was done before they put their trays away and left the mall.
"Its almost 2:30, we hitting Skate Palace?" Marshall asked, glancing at Hailie who was in the back. She nodded.
"Yeah Daddy. Some of my friends are going there today too." She buckled her seat belt, knowing that Marshall would tell her to buckle it anyways, and he pulled the car out of the lot.
"Okay." Marshall sighed. He glanced at Lataya, who pulled a mentos package from her pocket, and looked up at him.
"Want one?" She offered. He shrugged and she pulled a candy from the wrapper, and he held out a hand for it. She gave one to him, and then turned around to Hailie. "Hailie, you want a mentos?"
"Yes please." Hailie said, reaching out a hand for the candy. Lataya put one in her hand, and turned back around. She took one for herself, and put the rest back in her pocket.
They drove to the Skate Palace, rented rollerskates and sat down on the benches to put them on. Marshall tied up Hailies while Lataya cashed some coins in one of the machines to let Hailie play games with. When she got back, Marshall was just finishing tying Hailies skates, and Hailie stood up, almost falling but grabbing onto Marshall shoulder and steadying herself.
"Whoa," Marshall said, grabbing Hailies arm. "You okay on these things?"
"Yeah." Hailie said, looking around the skating rink for her friends that were going to be there today. She caught glimpse of her friend Kelly, and looked back at Marshall. "Can I go skate with Kelly?"
"Sure, be careful on these things will ya? And dont go to far from here, got it?" He said, a little bit hesitant to the idea of letting her go off on her own.
"Kay." She said. Lataya held out a handfull of tolkens and handed them to Hailie. She put them in her pocket and smiled up at Lataya, and then skated towards the rink where Kelly was waiting.
Lataya sat down next to him once she had gone, and they watched her skate for a minute. "She is cute." She said, leaning her chin in her hands and her elbow on her knee as she watched Hailie laugh at Kelly, who had fallen, and then Hailie stumbled also, grabbing the side of the rink for support.
Marshall glanced at Lataya, and smirked, and then back at Hailie. "Yeah, she is. She makes me fuckin nervous on those damn skates."
"Relax." Lataya said calmly. "So she falls, scrapes her knees, its all part of being a kid. You cant be her knee pad forever Marsh. Shes gotta grow up sometime."
"I know, its just, I dont want her to." He sighed a heavey sigh, and then straightened up. "I guess your right though. I just worry, yanno? Theres alot of sick fucks in this world, and assholes that hate me, and they know that the best way to get me is through Hailie, because shes like the most important thing to me yanno? So I just worry double about her. Cant help it."
"I know, it must be hard." She said, watching Hailie skate around with her friends.
"Yeah, not to bad though." He sighed. "Wanna skate with me?" He asked in a childish voice. She laughed and shook her head.
"No, you have cooties." She replied, grabbing her skate and putting it on her foot.
"Dumb girl." Marshall laughed and pulled on his skates. When they were done tying the laces, Marshall stood up and helped up Lataya.
"Lets play, LASER TAG!" She exclaimed, pointing at the big sign that said laser tag. Marshall grinned evilly at her.
"I bet I win." He said challengingly.
"No, Im gonna win. You WILL go DOWN!" She raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah sure. Lets make a lil wager on this then." He said, rubbing his hands together and licking his lips.
"What, how much money?" She asked. "Bring it, Mathers."
"I wasnt thinking money..." He trailed off and looked away from her.
She giggled. "Aight fine. You win, you get whatever you want, but, if I win, I get whatever I want."
"Sounds like a plan." He said. "Lets go." They took off towards the laser tag, both of them not very good on the skates, almost falling over each other, and deliberatly trying to trip each other a few times.
"SEE?! I WON!" Lataya exclaimed triumphantly. "I won, you lost! Now, I get WHATEVER I want." She laughed as they walked out of the laser tag area. Marshall skated up behind her and put an arm around her shoulders.
"Naw, ya see, I LET you win." He said, grinning.
"Just keep telling yourself that." She grinned.
"Yeah yeah. So...What time do you have to be back home tonight?" Marshall asked slowly.
"Oh, I dont know. Matt decided to go clubbing tonight with ELENA." She rolled her eyes at the name. "So, they wont be back until early in the morning." She grinned at Marshall. "So, whenever is fine with me."
"MMM." Marshall laughed and they walked towards the rink. They waited a while for Hailie to be done skating, and they left around 5.
"Hai, you tired yet?" Marshall asked.
"Yes!" Hailie sighed.
"Well, lets get you some McDonalds and drop you off at home. Okay?" Marshall asked, she nodded and they pulled into McDonalds parking lot.
They all got some food, and after they ate it in the parkinglot, they dropped Hailie off at home. Marshall walked her in the house, talked to Kim for about 2 minutes, until Kim got sick of him and kicked him out again.
"Aight. Now, we...are going back to the hotel." Marshall said, glancing at Lataya when he got back in the car. She still looked as good as she did this morning, if not better. He bit his bottom lip and she grinned at him seductively.
"So, lets go." She said. He laughed and started the car, driving towards the hotel as fast as the speed limit allowed.
"So, did you have a good time tonight?" Kim asked Hailie as she played with her barbies on the livingroom floor. Hailie looked up from the game, and nodded.
"Dad brang us to the mall. His friend helped me pick out some cool clothes." Hailie grinned.
"Oh, DeShaun?" She asked boredly. She hadnt looked at the stuff Hailie had gotten yet, and she was surprised that Hailie had let DeShaun pick out clothes for her. Kim knew that she would never trust him with that, he was a guy.
"No." Hailie shook her head and put the barbie in the jeep, after packing up a pink picnic basket and a barbie beach towel.
"Kuniva? Bizzarre?" Kim asked, getting curious as to who went to the mall with them.
"No, it was a girl..." Hailie said slowly.
"Oh, Jennifer? Rachel?" Kim asked, naming off some of Marshalls female friends, and then taking a sip of water, looking at the tv.
"Nope. It was a lady named Lataya."
Kim nearly spit her water all over the place in shock. "WHAT!?"
"Some lady, her name was Lataya." Hailie repeated.
Kim bit the side of her cheek, anger suddenly taking over her body. "Ok." She got up and walked into the kitchen, grabbed the phone off the hook, and dialed Marshalls hotel room number.
