Chapter 6
"What kind of cereal do you want Hai?" Marshall reached up into the cabinet and opened it. Hailie sat on the counter below it, and looked up into the shelves.
"Power puff girl cereal!" She said, pointed at the box. Marshall nodded, grabbed the box and then shut the cabinet door.
"Here, go sit down at the table while I get it for ya, aight?" He said, taking a bowl from the dishwasher and setting it on the counter. Hailie nodded and Marshall helped her jump down, and then got the milk from the fridge.
As he was pouring the milk into the bowl, Renae came down into the kitchen, rubbing her face tiredly, Sally following her as always. Hailie took a seat at the table and Renae smiled at her.
"G'morning Hailie." She said, walking over to the back door and opening it up and letting Sally go outside, and then she closed it and walked over to stand next to Marshall.
"Morning." Hailie replied, remembering that she had to be nice to Renae, even though she didnt like her, because she didnt want to get in trouble by her Daddy.
"Hey babe." Marshall said, looking at Renae.
"Hey." She grinned at him. He smiled back and gave her a quick kiss, bfeore taking Hailies cereal over to the table, picking a spoon out of the siverware drawer on the way. He set it down in front of Hailie, and walked over to the fridge and took out a can of mountain dew. "Marshall." Renae said, watching him.
"Huh?" He looked up.
"Your having soda, at 8:30 in the morning?" She raised her eyebrows. He looked down at the can of soda in his hand, and then nodded and opened the top. She sighed and shook her head.
"Can I have soda too?" Hailie asked hopefully.
"No." Marshall smirked.
"Why not?!" She tilted her head to the side, and watched him sit down next to her at the table.
"Because, its not good for you."
"You have some." She pointed out.
"Well, uh..." He hesitated. "Its not good for kids, to have this early in the morning."
Hailie shook her head and gave up, and Renae laughed. She got a cup of coffee and started putting sugar and milk in it. Once she had it how she wanted it, she turned around and looked up as Kenny and Laura entered the kitchen.
"Good morning." Laura said, smiling at Marshall. Renae cleared her throat and Laura looked over at Renae.
"Morning." Renae said bitterly, walking quickly over to the table and taking a seat on the other side of Marshall before Laura could sit there. "Help yourself to coffee, or something." Renae said, looking up at Laura and Kenny. Kenny shook his head.
"I dont want anything, not hungry." He said sitting across from Renae.
"Me either." Laura said, looking Marshall in the eye. "Im on a diet, you know, I dont wanna gain weight." Marshall raised his eyebrows. Laura was hot. She had worn a low cut blue spegghetti strap tank top, and hip hugger jeans, her stomach was exposed, and once again, his eyes found her bellybutton ring.
"So, Renae, I was thinking, maybe we could all go to a movie today. Like for the kids?" Kenny suggested.
"Yeah!" Hailie exclaimed, looking up from the cereal. "We can see Cats and Dogs!"
"Ugh, I dont know..." Renae hesitated. Marshall looked at her and nodded.
"This is perfect, bring Hailie to the movie, I'll stay home and mix a track, because I have to get it done. So that way you can spend time with Hailie and your brother. Perfect." Marshall whispered to Renae.
She bit the side of her cheek and shrugged. "I guess..." She agreed and Kenny grinned.
"Great." He looked to Laura, sort of letting her know that it was her cue to get herself out of going.
"Actually, Im not feeling so well today." Laura said, sitting down next to Kenny and grinning across the table at Marshall. "Maybe I can stay here, and maybe you can show me how you make your music?"
"Uh, I guess." Marshall nodded.
"Daddy, your not going?" Hailie asked, eyes wide.
"Naw, babe. I gotta work today. But, you can come back and tell me all about the movie." Marshall said, looking down at her. Hailie sighed.
"I dont want to go either." Hailie said. Immediatly Kenny looked up, slightly alarmed.
"But, the whole reason that we were gonna go is so that you can see a movie Hailie." He said, getting nervous.
"Yeah Hai, plus maybe it would be good for you to spend some time with Renae. Plus you'll have fun." Marshall said, putting an arm around Hailies shoulder. "I think you should go."
"We can get ice cream after." Renae offered. Hailie stared at her.
"Okay, I'll go." Hailie was still staring at Renae, and Renae sat back in the chair and looked around, trying to find an excuse not to make eye contact with her.
"Good. You'll have fun." Marshall grinned, and Renae stood up as she heard the baby crying.
"S'cuse me." She said, excusing herself from the table and hurrying upstairs, eager to get away from everyone at that table.
She wanted Hailie to like her so badly, but it seemed impossible, and it bothered her when people didnt like her for no reason. She felt awkward around Hailie, even when other people were there. Especially when the other people were Kenny, who she knew was only visiting her to get money from her, although a part of her deep down didnt want to admit it. And he had brought his skimpy clothes wearing girlfriend, Laura. She seemed to be flirting with Marshall at every chance that she got, most of the time right in front of Renae, and it pissed her off. What she didnt understand was why Kenny didnt seem to have a problem with it. And the way that Marshall didnt seem to mind her flirting, and just went along with it.
She rolled her eyes as she opened the nursery door. What was going on with her? Jealousy maybe? But why would she be jealous of Laura? She had Marshall, and that was what was important, right? So no matter how much Laura flirted with him, he was still her husband, and she trusted him, and trusted that it would stay that way forever. She didnt know what her problem was. In a few days, Laura would be gone, and everything would be back to normal.
She walked up the tiny steps and over to the babys crib.
"Shh." She wihspered, reaching down and picking him up, cradling him and rocking him back and forth in her arms. She walked over to the small changing table in the corner and changed his diaper. When she was done, he was still crying, but not as much. She smiled down at him and picked him back up.
She wasnt ready to go back downstairs yet so she sat down in the rocking chair next to the crib and rocked Marsh back and forth slowly.
She realized that it was jealousy that she felt. She may have Marshall, but Laura was so beautiful. Renae only wished she could look half that pretty. She felt so ugly when she was aorund Laura. She started insulting herself, thinking baout every single thing that was wrong with her and wasnt wrong with Laura. Laura had blonde hair, beautiful blonde hair, Renae had brown hair. Dark brown, almost black, but not quite. Laura wore make up, and looked younger then she really was. Renae looked every bit of 29 and she didnt wear make up that often unless she was getting dressed up for something. Laura wore pretty clothes, showed off alot of skin. Renae wore baggy jeans and oversized sweat shirts and tee shirts.
"Renae?" She heard a voice and she looked up to see Marshall standing in front of her. Renae looked up at him and raised both eyebrows, as if asking what he wanted. "Are you coming downstairs, or...?"
"Yeah, I was just sitting here with Marsh." She said, looking down at the baby. He had his index and middle finger in his mouth as he stared up at her, his eyes wide. It was like he could sense all the feelings that she felt, and it scared him. And why shouldnt it scare him? she was mad at Laura, mad at herself, mad at Kenny, just plain angry. She hugged him gently to her, but at the same time tightly.
"You aight?" Marshall asked, staring at her. She nodded.
"Yeah, Im fine."
"Aight." Marshall squatted down in front of her, and looked at the baby. "Hey baby boy!" He said, in the cutest baby talk voice, that made Renae smile. "Want me to take him?" Marshall asked, his voice back to normal. He looked up at Renae and she shook her head.
"I got him." She said quietly, looking down at the baby.
"Aight. You sure your okay?" Marshall asked, standing up straight.
"Yup." She nodded. "Im aight, really." She reassured him. She didnt know if it was true. She didnt know if she was alright or not. But she wanted him to leave, she didnt know why. She just wanted to be alone.
"Okay. When you coming downstairs?"
"Few minutes. I just dont want to be around Kenny right now. You know?"
"Uh huh. Well come down when your ready then." He said, walking away. "Ima be in the kitchen if you need me, okay?"
"Mhm." She nodded and looked back down at Marsh as Marshall left the room.
After about 10 minutes of thinking, and holding Marsh, she finally decided that she had to go downstairs. She couldnt hide up there for ever, she had to go down there at some point. She stood up, and started off downstairs.
"Aight, come on, we're gonna be late for the movie." Renae said, picking up Marsh out of the playpen in the living room and walking into the front hall, followed by Hailie, Kenny, Marshall and Laura. She had to wear her hair down, with a white visor, and baggy clothes. Hopefully, no fans would notice her and ask for autographs. She watched Hailie and Kenny go outside and then she looked back at Marshall and sighed.
Laura was standing unneccessarily close to Marshall, and Renae wanted to run inbetween them and beat the shit out of Laura, but she couldnt. Marshall looked Renae in the eye and could tell she was upset about something, he just didnt know what. He looked over to his side at Laura, she was so close to him that she was almost touching him. He shook his head and looked back at Renae and shrugged.
Renae gave him a dirty look and he frowned. She looked mad at him, but why? He hadnt done anything, sure, Laura was allover him but he wasnt returning anything, he was just standing there. Why should she be mad at him?
"See ya later." Marshall mumbled. Renae glared at him and then at Laura, and turned around and closed the door behind her, not knowing why she had such a bad feeling about leaving them there. She knew that she could trust Marshall, she knew he wouldnt do anything to hurt her, but it was Laura. She didnt trust Laura as far as she could throw her. She shook the thought and opened the car door, putting Marsh in the car seat and buckling him in.
She knew she was being stupid, even if Laura did try something with Marshall, whos to say that it would work? Marshall wouldnt do that to her, he loved her, and she loved him. She smiled at the thought and closed the car door, walking around to the drivers side of the BMW and getting in, next to Kenny.
"Nice car." Kenny complimented. Renae grinned and put the keys in the ignition, turning it and starting the car.
"I know. This was the first major thing that I bought when I started out rapping." She sad fondly, backing out of the driveway.
"Can you put on the radio?" Hailie asked from the back seat, next to Marsh.
"Sure." Renae put the radio on and drove down the long driveway to the street, and turned left.
"So, thats how you mix down the track?" Laura asked, looking over Marshalls shoulder, as he turned the knobs on he mix board. She leaned down, until she was sure that he could feel her breath on his neck when she talked.
"Yeah." He said slowly, shivering.
"Cool." She said.
"Uh huh. Now we listen to it, see if we like it, and if we do, we keep it." He explained. "But I think Im just about done mixing it for now, we can go listen to it."
"Ohhh." He stood up and she straightened up quickly. He began walking out of the home studio and up the stairs into the house, she followed closely behind him.
"Aight." He said, walking over to the stereo and putting the CD in the CD tray. "There we go, and lets see how it sounds."
He pressed play and a beat came on. They listened to the song, Marshalls head bobbing up and down to the beat and Laura, smiling and listening to the music, watching Marshall. She couldnt wait to put what she had planned into action. Damn, this boy was FINE. She didnt think she would regret it one bit.
"That sounds REALLY good." She said, walking towards him. He grinned.
"Thanks, but it needs some more work, Im a perfectionist, so nothing I do is good enough for myself." He joked. She laughed lightly and put her hands on his shoulders, sliding them down his chest and playing with his shirt. He watched her, mezmorized for a second, and then backed away from her. "So, uh, you want to play video games?"
"Uhm, no thanks." She said quietly, walking forward again.
"You know what Kenny?" Renae said, handing Hailie some popcorn and a soda and then sitting down inbetween her and Kenny. Kenny was holding Marsh, and he looked up. "I decided, I'll give you the 5 thousand."
"Whoa, really?" Kenny tried to sound surprised, but he knew that she would give in to him eventually. She always did.
"Yeah, but you have to use it for paying your bills and stuff. Okay? Dont go down to the liquor store and stock up in beer, dont go down and play the lottery, dont buy whores, just use it for something useful, okay?" She said, handing him an envelope.
"Okay, I will." He agreed, taking the envelope and opening it slightly, looking in at the money. "Thanks Renae."
"No problem." She smiled at him and then took Marsh from him. The movie started and they all looked up at the huge screen in front of them.
"Hey, did you know that theres a bees nest in the guest room window?" Laura asked, still trying to get close to Marshall. Her last 12 attempts at seducing him had failed, but the last 2 had come very close.
"Is there really?" He asked. "Hm, Ill have to check that out."
"Yeah, Ill show you. Come on." She said, grabbing his hand and pulling him up off the couch, leading him down the hallway to the stairs. They walked up the stairs, and up the hall to the guest room door. "Its right in that window." She said, pointing at one of the windows next to the bed.
"Really?" He walked over to the window and peered through it, searching for a bees nest. He saw it and sighed. "Aw shit, thats a yellow jacket nest."
"Yeah, I hate yellow jackets." She said, walking up close to him, putting a hand on his shoulder and looking into the window at the bees nest.
"Yeah, those things are motherfuckers. I'll have to get them out, think I got some bee killing shit in the garage from last year when they put a nest in the porch last summer." He thought outloud, turning around and coming face to face with Laura. He raised his eyebrows. "What are you doing?" He asked suspiciously.
"Nothing..." She said, putting her arms around his neck. He took her arms and removed them from around him, and shook his head.
"I dont know what your doing but you better cut it out."
"What do you mean?" She asked innocently, stepping closer to him.
"I mean, cut it out." He said, backing up against the wall. She smirked and cornered him there, so he couldnt slip away from her.
"Im not doing anything though..." She trailed off.
"Okay well-" He was cut off by her mouth covering his.
"Hailie, did you like that movie?" Renae asked as she buckled Marsh into the car seat.
"Yeah, it was cute!" Hailie grinned, forgetting her feelings towards Renae for the afternoon, and letting herself have fun.
"Thats good. Im glad that you liked it." She said, closing the car door and getting into the front seat beside Kenny again. She was in a better mood, Hailie seemed to be hating her less, and Kenny was actually being nice, and she couldnt wait to get home and tell Marshall about Hailie talking to her.
"Renae, are we still getting ice cream after?" Hailie asked. Renae looked at Kenny, and Kenny nodded.
"We did say that we were." He said. Hailie smiled.
"Yeah, we can get ice cream. Why not?" Renae grinned and started the car.
"What the fuck are you doing?" Marshall asked, pushing away from her, after a few seconds. He tried to step backwards but hit the wall, and then tried to step to the side, but there was a wall there. He looked to his other side at Laura, who had her hands on the wall in back of him, and was grinning mischeviously at him.
"Nothing." She replied, moving to kiss him again. He was about to resist, but remembered Renae. Was she mad at him? If she was, she wouldnt care if he and Laura fucked. He hesitated, trying to decided what he should do. Laura seemed to decide for him, and she shoved him back up against the wall and kissed him hard on the mouth. 'Damn.' He thought, 'Bitch is strong for a girl.'
He didnt try to get away from her this time, instead, he couldnt think straight. She was so hot, she was driving him insane. He kissed her back and she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling away, but bringing him with her and not breaking the kiss, and turning him around so that she could push him backwards onto the bed. She climbed over him and started taking off his shirt.
"Im done." Hailie said, finishing her icecream cone, and looking up at Renae. They were seated on picnic tables outside of the ice cream store. Renae handed her a napkin to wipe the chocolate off her face with, and they stood up, throwing the napkins and other trash into the waste basket next to the picnic area, and setting off towards the parkinglot.
They got back in the car and drove for about 10 minutes, until the driveway came into the view, and they pulled up to the big house, the garage with the basketball hoop hanging off it. She pressed the garage opener on her keychain and pulled in, shutting the car off.
"Im gonna go play with the puppy out back okay?" Hailie asked, unbuckling and sitting up, opening her door halfway.
"Sure." Renae grinned. "I think we are getting pizza for dinner tonight. I dont cook so good, you know that though right?" She asked, looking at Kenny. Hailie let herself out of the car and Kenny laughed.
"Oh, I know that very well, remember that time that you-" He got out of the car and Renae walked around to the back and unbuckled Marshall from the carseat.
"You know, its so easy to critize!" Renae cut him off. She picked up the baby and they walked towards the house, putting the car alarm on before they went inside.
Kenny headed straight for the bathroom, praying that his plan would work, and that Laura had done what she was supposed to do. He knew that if this plan failed, it could have probably been his last shot at breaking them up. He hoped that Marshall was easily seduced, which, if everything he heard was true, he was.
"Damn." Renae walked into the living room and heard the radio playing a track for Marshalls new Cd. It was all mixed down, he must have left it playing and walked away from it again. She clicked the CD player off and looked at Marsh in her arms. He was just about to fall asleep. "You sleepy?" She asked, starting towards the stairs to put him to bed.
She wondered where Marshall could be, and where Laura could be. They were probably in the studio, showing her how to mix the tracks. She would go check there next. She turned the corner and walked down the hallway to the nursery, looking down at the baby as she went.
Marshall knew he shouldnt be doing this, and it made it harder for him to enjoy it. He did enjoy it, how could he not? Laura was HOT. From the blonde hair, to the bellybutton ring, to the painted toes, she was sexy. He couldnt deny that. And she was great at what she did.
He closed his eyes in pleasure as he laid back and let Laura fuck him. His eyes shot open as he heard a gasp, and it didnt sound like Laura. He turned his head and he saw Renae, one hand covering her mouth, one arm around the baby as she tried not to drop him in surprise. Immediatly, he pushed at Laura, trying to get her off him.
Laura looked around and saw Renae and got off Marshall, quickly wrapping a sheet around herself and standing up. Marshall stood up too, and Renae took off down the hallway, tears starting to flow from her eyes. She ran towards the nursery as fast she could, wanting to put the baby down before she totally flipped out on them.
"Renae!" Marshall called as she took off down the hallway. "Hold on, I can explain!" He yelled, grabbing his pants from the floor and putting them on in a hurry, and then going after her as Laura took her clothes and began getting dressed.
