The Duel is definitely not Andrew Laus best work. I think he should stick with the more serious films like Storm Riders because the comedy doesn't work well in this type of movie. Although the film is good, it could be a lot better. The story gets dull pretty fast and there isn't enough action to keep you satisfied. I found I couldn't even watch the movie in the English dubbed version because it made the movie worse. Some stuff I found funny in the Cantonese subtitled version wasn't even close to funny in the English version. What makes this movie good are the special effects during the fight scenes. They are what save this movie from being a bore. Some people try to steer away from CGI new age movies, but I personally enjoys those types of movies. But after seeing movies like Storm Riders, I wasn't too impressed with The Duel. Even though the CGI effects are done well, you just don't see enough. If you haven't seen movies like Storm Riders and Man Called Hero and are interested in purchasing the titles, I suggest you try this one first. You may just enjoy it more if you don't see those first because they definite overshadow this movie. But all in all a decent flick.
