NARENDRAN MAKAN JAYAKANTHAN VAKA

Director Satyan Anthikad, prefers the title of all his films to be different - hence this long title Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka.

Jayakanthan (Kunchacko Boban) is the central character in the film. He is a middle class young man who comes to Kerala from Kumbhakonam in Tamilnadu. The state government, for the proposed new airports runway, is acquiring one of his ancestral properties in a remote village. He has come to collect the compensation from the Kerala government. But it gets stuck, in the bureaucratic red tape.

The role of Jayakanthan is challenging for Chakkochan (as he is known in film circles) as he has an image of a chocolate hero till now. Samyukta Varma plays the role of Vinodini the panchayat president and newcomer Asin is introduced as Swathi in the film.

Srinivasan Satyam Anthikad team has always given clean family entertainer before and this film (NMJV) will have comedy, emotion and sentiments that are expected from the team. The cast also includes Srinivasan, Innocent, Mamukoya, Bindu Panikar and KPAC Lalitha.

PUTHOORAM PUTHRI UNNIYARCHA

Kunchacko & Jomol comes with an entirely different (but interesting too) role. The new young sensation of Malayalam, Kunchacko Boban, plays a quite different role in this film with Jomol. Another special thing about this film is that the coming back of the famous Music Director, Usha Ghanna, into Malayalam after a very long break, who had become famous among Malayalees through the popular song, starting with "Nee Madhu Pakaroo".

Aaromalunni (Kunchacko Boban) is the son of the great, Unniyarcha (Vani Vishwanath), who is the only daughter of the Kannappachekavar of the famous "Puthooram Veedu". The members of the "Puthooram Veedu" were always at the top in every martial arts during that period.

Among the young generation, Aaromalunni had already become the dream prince of the country. Like that, there was a princess, Kunchikkanni (Jomol), who was the dream princess of "Kolathu Nadu". And from the very first sight itself Aaromalunni falls in love with Kunchikkanni. Moreover, there was so many other factors that can intensify their love. In the following part, we can see how their love affair is flowering.

But, unfortunately, some issues are coming on their way and the director Viswambharan tells that story in a very dynamic, interesting manner using the same success formula that were applied to any picture of this type of "Vadakkan Pattu".

DOSTH: A Film For The Young

Popular young-generation actor Dileep and teenage sensation Kunchacko Boban coming together for the first time - that's indeed news for the youth of Kerala, who constitute a major chunk of the filmgoers in the state. Anyhow this is the main attraction of Kottarakara Film's Dost, directed by Thulasidas, which as the name suggests, tells the story of friendship and of course love too.

Boban and young actress Kavya Madhavan are starring again opposite each other after Sahayaatrikaykku Snehapoorvam.Dost has its focus on the friendship between Ajith and Vijay, both in the same college. On his first day in college, itself Vijay has a clash with Ajith. But before that itself he had met Geethu and it's love at first sight for him. Ajith, who is of a somewhat rough kind, doesn't easily become friends with anybody. But anyhow a friendship, that too a deep one, starts between Ajith and Vijay.

At the same time, on a parallel track Vijay's love with Geethu too develops. In the meantime Vijay realizes that Geethu is Ajith's sister. He is confused and does not know what to do. But Ettuveettil Kuttappan, his servant-cum-well-wisher , tells him that there is nothing wrong in it and so he decides to continue with his love towards Geethu. But when Vijay learns some serious things about Ajith's past, he finds himself in a real dilemma. He has to choose between friendship and love.

That's where he has to make the crucial decision.Among the cast it is Dileep who steals the show as Ajith. Dileep seems very much different in the semi-serious role. Kunchacko Boban as Vijay and Kavya Madhavan as Geethu are very much likely to appeal the youth. Jagathy Sreekumar as Ettuveettil Kuttappan, Bindu Panicker as Lata, Kuttapan's wife and Urmila Unni as Ajith's mother have done full justice to their respective roles.

Salu George's cinematography, which contributes very much towards creating the necessary mood and atmosphere of a college campus, deserves special mention. Scripted by Sibi.K.Thomas and Udayakrishna, the film has artwork by Nemon Pushparaj and editing by Ranjan Abraham. S. Rameshan Nair's lyrics, set to tune by Vidyasagar, are mostly in keeping with the trend. Anyhow the songs "Manjupole, maankunjupole." And "Thaththamma peru, thaazhambu veedu." have come off really well. Dost, the 26th film by Thulasidas, is very much likely to be a hit among the youth and teenagers.

SAHAYATRIKAKU SNEHAPOORVAM

With channels mushrooming and the small screen swaying the popular imagination, it was bound to spill on to the big screen. Here is Sahayatrikaku Snehapoorvam, which among other things brings into the picture the intense behind the scenes happenings in a television channel studio.

Kunchako Boban and Kavya Madhavan, are the travellers, together for the first time, in this roller coaster ride with love and togetherness being the central theme.

They were classmates in college and develop a fondness for each other. Incidentally after college they reach the same workplace; a television studio as news reporters .They are pitted against each other for the same position, whoever outsmarts the other gets the coveted job and both cannot say no to it. So they go on a wild goose chase searching for the best news stories, at times crossing each other's paths. Cracks begin to appear in their love life, yet they cannot sacrifice their careers. Their job is at stake, their love is at stake.

"The movie is a probe into the fate of campus romances, long after they have left it" says director Shankar, who also directed 'Nakshatratharattu', "when reality of life stares at them, will they sacrifice love for a career?", he adds. The movie goes through the trials and tribulations of a youngster bitten by the media bug. And a career driven girl, who would go to the extremes to keep her job.

It is unlike any run of the mill boy- meets- girl love story, claims the director, it has much more substance to it. It is a story of hope, despair and aspirations of today's youth that they can relate to. It has a lot in common with the youth of today who is balancing many things at once.

Kunchako Boban is Sajin, the wannabe director and Kavya Madhavan is Maya, the steely scriptwriter-cum-reporter. Also adding weight to the credit lines and laugh lines are Jagadeesh, Innocent, M'pilla Raju, N.F. Verghese, Sudheesh, etc. There songs penned by S.Rameshan Nair and tuned by Mohan Sithara are worth listening and have already caught the public fancy.
