Chapter 2

After what seemed like the longest day ever, it still wasn’t over! It was only Gym and Alex was in the locker room changing into her Gym clothes. She looked around to see if any girls were looking at her and took off her shirt.

She was very self cautious about her body and never liked the idea of changing in front of people. She wasn’t fat or anything, she was a normal weight and framed girl. Even so, she wasn’t about to go around prancing around the locker room in her underwear like a lot of girls did.
She put on her white plain T-shirt and baggy gym pants. She stood up and looked at her self in the mirror.

“Ugh…I look like a guy” she said to her self while observing how horrible she looked in gym clothes.

“Yeah, you’re right”, a voice said from behind her. She turned around and saw that fiery red hair.

“Shut up Laura”, Alex started walking out of the locker rooms. She didn’t feel like being teased today.

“I was only agreeing with yoooou” Laura sang mockingly as her friends giggled behind her.

In the gym she saw a bunch of guys running around and wrestling with each other. They were being stupid as always and Alex was the first girl there like it was almost everyday. She walked to where her spot was almost wanting to run so she could sit down. While she was standing and walking by herself she felt vulnerable and weak, but as soon as she got to her spot she could sit down and everything would be ok.

A couple guys watched her walk by and hid their smiles.

After the morning exercise the teacher told everyone to go outside. Today they were going to play soccer.

She got put into a team that had obviously not wanted her. She wasn’t very good at soccer. Actually, she wasn’t very good at any sport and no one wanted that kind of person on their team.

Alex sat on the grass Indian style and watched the guys kick each other legs trying to get a hold of the ball. The girls were just standing around except some of them who were actually trying.

One girl freaked out when the ball was rolling towards her. It was of Laura’s friends called Rebecca or Becky as everyone called her.

“Becky! Come sit down. Alex get out there!” The gym teacher called. Alex jumped at the sound of her name.

“But...uh…err.. You see…” The Gym teacher just pushed her in despite her obviously not wanting to go play.

She got in her spot and stared at the people on the opposing team. She heard the whistle and she dashed towards her goal for the other team had the ball.

Someone on her own team, a kid named John who had brown hair spiked up with blond tips managed to snatch the ball away. He kicked the ball and found himself blocked, he looked around desperately and kicked the ball over to the only person who wasn’t being blocked. Alex.

The ball came rolling towards her and it took her a second to realize what had happened.

She kicked the ball as best she could and followed it kicking it between her legs as best she could. She thought she was doing great when all of a sudden a foot came in front of her and in an attempt to not hurt whoever’s foot that was she stumbled over her own feet and fell right smack into the mud.

Alex lifted her head and heard laughter. She saw Laura and her little group of girls laughing hysterically at her.

Alex was filled with sudden anger. She felt like getting up and running towards her tackling her down. She stood up slowly and looked at Laura who was still laughing.

“She’s so stupid…” Alex heard Laura say to her girlfriends. Alex felt like running away right there. She didn’t know why but she couldn’t speak and she felt a slight pressure in the back of her eyes. Alex felt like crying and running away. She stayed quiet, for she knew that if she opened her mouth to say anything she would cry or something. Then Laura would know she got to her. The rest of the class came running in over in a matter of seconds to see what had happened.

They were all looking at her and none of them said a word. She looked at the many faces and every second that passed felt like an hour.

“What happened here?” The Gym teacher asked Alex.

Alex looked at the teacher, “Um…”

Laura spoke up before Alex could say anything, “She was being a klutz like usual Miss.”

The spiky haired kid named John stepped out of the crowd.

“You don’t look so good Alex. Miss… Can I take her to inside to get water or something?”

The teacher studied Alex’s face and agreed. Some girls made faces and some of the guys just laughed to themselves and hit each other shoulder to shoulder.

He walked passed her and said, “C’mon…”

Alex was surprised at this. She walked next to him in silence.

He looked over towards her and smiled.

“I saw what happened”.

“Yeah…well…”

They both made it inside the building.

“What’s the deal anyway?” Alex asked while sitting down on an inside bench.

“What do you mean?” John asked innocently blinking.

She looked into his crystal blue eyes and shook her head.

“Why are you...being so nice?”

“Why wouldn’t I be nice?”

“No one else is...at least not anyone like…” She looked at him.

“Like me?”

“Um...Yeah”

“Well… I’m just like anyone else.” He gave her a half smile and stood up.

“But you’re so popular and everyone likes you” Alex felt very dumb after she said that. She wanted to keep this conversation going between her and this hunk who was being so nice.

“A lot more people like you then you think.” He looked at her, “Especially the one you would least expect”

Alex blinked. Where was he going with this?

He noticed that the class was coming back and started walking towards the guy’s locker room.

“See ya around Alex”.

She watched him disappear into the locker room and stood up. She headed towards the girls locker room her self to change.

The bell rung and Alex hurried off to her science class. She had to make a quick stop at her locker to grab her things but she had to hurry since there were only 4 minutes to get to each class.

Struggling with her books she turned the knob off her lock and opened it. She took the lock off and opened her locker in a hurry. She put her books in and while doing so she noticed a piece of paper sitting at the bottom of her locker that wasn’t there before.

She grabbed the paper curiously and looked at it. On the paper there was writing. The writing was slanted towards the right and written in a very neat cursive. Alex grew excited and started reading the letter.

What would it be like to swing on a star, or walk on a cloud? Would it be anything like what I feel whenever you are near?

……Anonymous …….

She read over the letter again and she couldn’t believe it. Someone had sent her this letter. She must admit it was a tad bit mushy. BUT WHO CARED!!

She was freaking out. Who could have sent this letter? She looked at the letter and knew… It was definitely Michael!!
