Brendan was orphaned at a young age and raised by his  eccentric Uncle in an environment resembling a religious hermitage. Brendan was raised to undertake both manual labor, and intellectual pursuit. His Uncle told him that it was his parents wish the he follow the religious life. As his Uncle lay dying he told Brendan that he had had a vision the he should undertake a voyage as his namesake Saint Brendan had done. With his Uncles death Brendan set out in as small coracle. He was filled with faith, and determination, but hopelessly ill prepared. Brendan drifted aimlessly, until at the point of death he was found by the pirate ship Tigress. Captain Kat rescued him, and asked him to be the ships chaplain. He readily agreed believing that it must have been god's will that brought him to the pirates. He prayed for them daily, and tried to gently guide them back to the right path. He firmly believed that despite the way they led their lives they must be basically good people underneath, for he had been taught that no one was truly evil, just badly misguided. His world was shattered when Captain Kat was slain by treachery. Without her charismatic leadership the crew of the Tigress broke up. Brendan has wandered aimlessly ever since, learning much about the world. In the intervening years he has become more cynical, and has abandoned much of his religious upbringing. He is still good hearted, however, and tries to help those in need when he can.
