Mizuki Ashiya
A 13-year old Japanese/American girl who watches high jumper Izumi Sano on television. At one glance, she is captivated by his graceful jumping style. Although she lived in San Francisco,CA she earned enough money through odd jobs to go to school in Japan. For three years, she scrambled through all available info about Izumi Sano and learned that he attended an all boys' boarding school. Determined to watch him and stay by his side, she cut her long beautiful hair and traveled overseas to enroll in his school. Upon attending school the first day, she finds out that she is Sano's roommate! What a coincidence. Being the type of optimistic but clumsy person Mizuki is, she gets into a LOT of sticky situations. Moreover, by the time she FINALLY meets Sano, he has quit high-jumping after a car accident and is just regularly attending school. Of course Mizuki attempts to persuade Sano to return to high-jumping and in the end succeeds in doing so. Of course, many things obstruct Sano and Mizuki's relationship from developing too rapidly -- such as Nakatsu, Mizuki's stauch admirer, Sano and Mizuki's family, and Mizuki's secret! Izumi Sano
Izumi Sano is the HANDSOME young boy that Mizuki travels overseas for! Although Sano doesn't seem to be all that nice and welcoming at first, he is very sweet! As I was reading the manga, in fact, I noticed he was very protective of her. For example, he displays his covert affection by messing with Mizuki's hair and tries to help Mizuki hide her true identity (although Mizuki herself doesn't know that Sano knows that she's a girl) as much as he possibly can! Mizuki, being the very dense person she is, is always caught in the middle of things. Deep down, he is very caring and responsible - concerning his little brother, Shin, and MIZUKI. I guess you could say that Sano is the stereotype quiet and cool type.

Nakatsu Shuichi
Nakatsu is the comic-relief of the whole series. Nakatsu is hilarious as he struggles against his seemingly GAY feelings for Mizuki. Since he doesn't know that Mizuki is a girl he is constantly fighting his inner emotions and conscience! Nakatsu's character is somewhat outgoing, outwardly emotional, and practical. He seems to show them more openly when he's with Mizuki -- as he always gets a bloody nose by thinking of some promiscuous thoughts.. Most of the time, he is always there to comfort Mizuki. I think he's an adorable character -- and strangely enough, I have not found any flaws with him, which is wEird because everyone has one flaw or another. Perhaps, I suppose his one flaw is that he is a bit too rash in deciding.

Minami Nanba
My first impression of Minami was actually LOSER. For the reason that Minami was kinda like the womanizing shallow long-haired guy he was, I wasn't so fond of his character or his appearance for that matter. But, as the story progressed, and I read the special inside story of how he was dumped by an older woman he really loved, I began to like his character a lot more. Not that I gloated at the idea that he was dumped, but because he seemed like more of a compassionate person than I previously judged him to be. Moreover, Minami also consoled Mizuki for her woes and sorrows in the way that a big brother gave advice to a younger sibling. Anyway, I like him better when he was younger - no long hair. Hokuto Umeda
Umeda is the school nurse of Ohsaka Gakuen. At first glance, Umeda already KNOWS Mizuki is a girl by intuition. Since he is the first one to figure out her true identity, Mizuki always comes to seek advice from Umeda about her problems with Sano. I consider Umeda to be fairly good looking, second to Sano. However, Umeda is a yaoi character. I will stay neutral on this subject. Nonetheless, he gives Mizuki good advice to maintain her relationship with Sano, and helps her out a lot to hide her identity. Umeda is also very funny - he almost OMNIPRESENT and adds small comments here and there, which makes it well --- funny. He is also known for kicking people a lot with his spikey shoes to drive someone away. An odd fact is that if you're trying to draw Umeda, he's kinda hard. I don't know what it is about him, maybe it's his arched eyebrows, I don't know, but something makes him look incredibly different. Oh yeah! His parents are very young and Umeda's father looks almost like Umeda without glasses!!!! hee hee I finally scanned in a picture of his father: click here please.
