Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) Sensor

OPERATION

The MAP sensor is connected to the intake plenum with a hose and constantly measures the intemal collector pressure. The measured amount of manifold air pressure is converted into an electrical signal and sent to the control unit. The control unit uses this signal in conjunction with a signal from the CMP sensor, to calculate the amount of intake air.

TESTING

1. Switch the ignition ON.
2. Measure the voltage at the MAP sensor terminals with the harness plugged in. Measure the voltage from the harness side.

3. Start the engine and measure the MAP sensor terminal voltage again. 4. Replace the MAP sensor if Voltage readings are out of range

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the connector from the IJAP sensor.
3. Remove the harness from the sensor.
4. Using a suitable wrench, loosen and remove the MAP sensor from the intake manifold.

TO INSTALL

5. Apply a thin layer of Teflon tape to the threads of the MAP sensor.
6. Install the MAP sensor to the manifold assembly, and tighten to 3-5 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
7. Attach the harness to the sensor.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
