kuleana heritage workcenter facilitates activities dedicated to agriculture and aquaculture projects.  the workcenters farm maintains standards of energy efficiency and self-sustainment;  protecting natural resources in the area of erosion control, watershed restoration and management, weed and pest control, and under favorable circumstances, reforestation.  PURPOSE:  to increase the supply of native hawaiian plants.  milo trees, originally a valued resource for pre-contact hawaiians, served as the best wood for carving.  culturally, this wood was choosen to carve figures for religious significants, equipped ocean vessels for transportation and fishing;  and made fine bowls for edibles.  today, Milo wood is still highly sought after as a quality wood.  it is hard to find and sells at a good price.
