| She Waits Outside the night begins to fall She sits on the sofa.. and ponders her life The tv drones on with a show she used to love.. but that was a lifetime ago. She listens to the sounds outside her door an approaching car.. is it slowing down? She listens for a phone that doesn't ring She listens .. and she watches out the window.. and she waits.. She glances at the photographs on the table. and wonders what happened to the people pictured there. They were so happy. at least thats how it seemed. What happened to them? Where did that love go? Was it ever really there? Another car.. another look out the window.. nothing. still she waits.. She bought all the dreams he sold her once. and paid dearly with her heart. What happened to those dreams? What changed? Was he seduced by a woman? or a drink? or was it freedom that lured him away? Freedom from the ordinary existance of the life they shared Was it something she did? something she said... something she didn't say.. The words used to flow so freely between them and now like polite strangers.. they barely nod What happened to all those words? She looks at the clock.. still ticking.. always ticking.. The tv still drones on. the cars keep passing by... the silent phone still sits.. mocking her dispair.. and yet.. she waits. |
