| EARTHDAY POEM It feels like Spring. The air is alive with the sweet smells of the earth renewing herself after the long and cold winter. It takes me back to a time.. when the world and I were both very young. I belonged to the earth then.. and she to me. Unchained by the bonds of civilization.. we lived in peace. She gave me life.. and I in return gave back all that was in my power to return She taught me about beauty. The sound of a creek flowing through the woods. To climb to the top of the hill that overlooks her green and golden valley.. and to watch in awe.. an eagle soaring overhead. is his never-ending flight into forever. Unhampered for countless years she stood.. my earth. And then the dawn of civilization.. They came.. They took from her and gave nothing.. They taught me about lies and deception. They taught me of destruction and death. They turned her beauty into cold concrete citys. They destroyed her forests and her creatures ... for their own gain. She still lives.. but shes weakend ... and her time is growing short. She valiantly attempts to renew herself.. as she is doing today. but.. with each passing year it becomes more difficult and more timely. Someday soon she'll be unable to penetrate the destruction that surrounds her.. and she'll wither and die.. and with her I go.. For she is me.. and I am she.. Perhaps someday there will be another creation.. Another earth.. another chance for life. Perhaps the people of that earth will be different. With some guidence from the Creator maybe they'll love and nurture her as she does them. and maybe.. just maybe.. their earth will blossom and grow as beautiful as mine was.. When she and I were both very young. |
