Marriage
For Richard and Linda

For forty years hes seen her face on the pillow next to his own.
The face that once held such beauty and promises of things to come.
Lined now by time and toil, her beauty has indeed changed.
But its a beauty that far surpasses what she once was.
For in those lines he sees their life.
He sees the birth of children, the passage of things they shared.
He sees happiness, and heartaches. Smiles and tears.
Sorrow and Joy.
He sees a lifetime of loving and sharing.
He sees the troubles theyve known and yet overcome.
He sees a weariness that wasnt always there.
Shes given her life to her children. And to him.
Shes worked and toiled to make them a home
To make them a family..
Shes been the glue that held them all together.
Yes her beauty is changed now.
As he gazes at that same face on the pillow he knows.
The lines of life that now touch her face only intensify her beauty
And in the moment his love overwhelms him.
And he whispers a prayer of thanksgiving.

She gazes at the familiar face across the pillow.
A Face she knows better than her own.
No longer a young man, she sees in him the years spent together.
Once he was her prince on a white horse, sweeping her off into the unknown.
Handsome and strong with promises of happily ever after.
She remembers the many years in flashbacks that come in an instant.
The lean years, the worries, the bills, the children.
The coming together ..And falling away ...then coming together again.
She sees the toll the years have taken on him.
The years of work and worry.
No longer a prince but the king of her heart
And she whispers a prayer of thanksgiving.

Marriage and life have changed the man and his wife
No longer young and afraid, they have faced the many challenges...
that life often tossed them
Step by step. Day by day. Year by year
Together they conquered them all
Life is a perilous journey at times.
But its been made sweet...
for they've traveled it together.
