Louie and Emma Kuhlmann

Louis Henry Kuhlmann born Sept. 17, 1903 one half mile South of St. John's Lutheran Church, which was located 3 miles S.E. of Athol. He was married on June 4, 1930 to Emma Margaretta Grauerholz -- born June 20, 1910. When Louie's brother Henry moved to Athol, Louie and Emma purchased the family farm 5 miles South of Athol from his father and they lived there until 1982 when they moved to Kensington, KS. Louie

died July 6, 1986 and is burried at St. John's where he was a life long member. Louie and Emma had 3 children: Ervin, Authur and Marlene.


Ervin Louis Kuhlmann born May 25, 1934. After High School served two years in the Army. He was married on June 4, 1954 to Florence Mae Lohmann, born April 26, 1935. Ervin's occupations consisted of farming, working in a trailer manufacturing plant at Halstead, KS and owing a Liquor Store at Oberlin, KS. Ervin and Florence have 4 children.
Arthur LeRoy Kuhlmann born Nov. 19, 1937. After graduating from high school joined the Air Force for 4 years. He then returned home and worked on construction, also drove an egg and cream truck. On April 21, 1963 Arthur was married to Melba Jean Quinn, born Jan. 17, 1937 at Naponee, NE. When his father retired, Arthur took over the family farm 5 miles south of Athol, KS. In addition Arthur worked for ASC office for about 20 years.

Arthur especially liked raising cattle, and it is said that he spends a lot of time with his cattle, talking to them! Arthur and Melba had 3 children.

Marlene Ruth Kuhlmann born April 23, 1941. After graduating from Brown-Macke Business School, worked in an office position for the Gas Company at Phillipsburg, KS for about 5 years, then for Western Federal Savings and Loan at Colorado Springs, CO until she retired.
