Brooklawn Youth ServicesBrooklawn Youth Services, a nonprofit ministry that focuses on boys 7 to 18, provides comprehensive services in a residential setting that strengthen self-esteem and teach life skills to emotionally, socially, and behaviorally troubled youths. The facility traces its origins back to 1851. In 1991 it became the first psychiatric residential treatment facility in Kentucky. Of particular concern are youth who have had numerous placements or who have suffered physical, sexual or emotional abuse, abandonment and adoption failure. Brooklawns 25-acre campus houses two programs one designed for group living and the development of self control and the other focusing on the building of healthy relationships with peers, adults and society. In 2000, Kudzu members volunteered time and worked a game booth in an effort to raise money for the facility. Kudzu plans to support the fund-raising festival again in 2001.
