| THE LONGEST HUNT |
|
|
| (Collection period: 1st May 2004 - 29th May 2004) |

| Besides finding the information about the licorice gourami through internet, I found out an article posted by somebody who was here in Sarawak collecting Betta brownorum and Betta taeniata. Later, I found out he is someone I am admire of and called him "the fish expert" because he knows a lot of species of fish in Sarawak and the regional area. |

| May 1st, the labour day ....I began my journey to Serian to find these two species of betta I mentioned above. When I reached the Serian town, I started to search the swamp in the surrounding area. I found a lot roads that I never explored before. I stopped at a few location where the river (mostly clearwater) flowing under the roads. I found two species of Borneo sucker (Gastromyzon sp.) which I never collected before in one of the rivers. I thought that is not the habitat of Betta taeniata so I decided to leave after spending an hour over there with my friend, James.( Later I found out that is the river where the Betta taeniata inhabits!!) |

| The next collection point is the lowland swamp forest not far away from Serian. The water is a bit black colored. I couldn't find anything interesting except the common Bettaibanorum and croacking gourami. (Trichopsis vittata) I searching around the whole area but failed to find any peat swamp forest. I left with disappointment. |
