Deleted Scene

An alternate ending scene was filmed involving a huge custard pie fight between everyone in the war room. Buck catches the Russian Ambassador taking pictures with a spy camera and orders him strip searched. He grabs a pie and throws it at him hitting the president who falls over. Buck orders a massive retaliation and soon everyone is involved in throwing pies. Soon the whole room and everyone in it is covered in custard. Meanwhile Dr. Strangelove falls out of his wheelchair and it rolls away. He can't get back in and tries to kill himself with a gunshot and his other hand stops him. The loud bang makes everyone stop and Buck comes to his rescue. Now the president and the Ambassador are making a castle out of the custard and Strangelove thinks they have snapped from the stress and lost their minds. Buck says Strangelove is now in charge.

Jan Harlen, Kubrick's brother-in-law, says the footage is in a canister on his desk and would never be released while he was alive as per Kubrick's demands. To me this means that when he dies someone else in the family will release it, otherwise why would he save it for decades and not have burned it years ago?

Cineric Deploys da Vinci's Revival To Restore "Dr. Strangelove"
11/20/06
The Revival toolset allows Cineric to scan material directly from the original camera negative at 4K resolution and correct extensive aging issues within the content, including shrinkage, dust, noise, color timing shifts, and flicker.
"Revival has given us the ability to restore both of these films to pristine quality at optimal efficiency," said Chip Wilkinson, director of development, Cineric. "Its open architecture has allowed us to interface all of our existing systems and instantly transfer data at high speeds within all pieces of equipment in the facility, greatly improving the speed at which we are able to complete the projects."
Revival is a complete motion picture image restoration system designed to handle everything from heavy-duty restoration to digital remastering. The system offers complete functionality, including deFlicker and dust, stain, blotch, dirt, and grain noise removal. An automatic mode analyzes and processes images without operator assistance, while Revival's interactive mode enables manual restoration of individual sequences and gives users the ability to go through film frame-by-frame to make adjustments, which is important when working with dated and worn footage. Both modes were utilized in Cineric's restoration work on the two films, allowing colorists to achieve the highest quality result at optimized speed.
In "Dr. Strangelove," artists had to use a fine-grain master made from the original negative that was not perfectly steady. Therefore, they needed to perform a large amount of stabilization and relied heavily on Revival's useful Stabilization tool.
