May Extra Credit
Week of May 7th:
One year, an airline saved $40,000 by eliminating one olive from each salad served in the first-class section.  Determine the number of jars that you would need to purchase to get $40,000 worth of olives at your local grocery store.  Then estimate how many salads the airline served in first class that year.
Week of May 14th:
Bradley and his yonger cousin Gavin were hiking a 3.9-mile trail while on vacation inteh Smokey Mountains.  Bradley's stride is 18 inches from the heel of one foot to the heel of the other.  Gavin's stride is 14 inches.  How many straides does Gavin make in 1 mile?  If Bradley walks at the rate of Gavin-strides per mile, how far ahead of Gavin will he be when Gavin completes the 3.9 miles?
Week of May 21st:
Lucy told her brother Kenneth that he could have the coins in her piggy bank if he could guess their total value.  She gave him this hint:  the total is the maximum value possible without being able to make exact change for 1 nickel, 1 dime, 1 quarter, 1 half-dollar, or 1 dollar.  How much money was in her bank?
Week of May 28th:
To deliver mail, the Canadian Post Office uses postal codes beginning with a letter and alternating 3 letters and 3 digits, such as H9W 2B3.  how many postal codes are possible with such a format?  Use the digits 0-9 and the letters except O, which can be confused wtih zero?
