Dr. Cohn's Math Classes
Class Time:
Drills - a few problems done at the start of class to review or give varied practice - These are not graded, but they should help by giving you and me feedback about your progress. It would be good to keep these together in a notebook for your review.
Review of homework - Anyone can ask to have a problem modeled and discussed.
Introduction of new material - Information and sample problems will be put on the board. Taking notes will help you remember the information, give you models to follow at home when you do your homework, and keep you focused in class.
Individual or Team Work - time for you to work individually or with partners to practice concepts and skills introduced in class or to work on projects/partner work - often in game format.
Tests/quizzes - Typically you will have the full period for tests and part of the period for quizzes. Tests and quizzes are typically  announced well in advance. From time to time there may be unannounced "pop quizzes."
Grading:
Quizzes - partway through chapters
Tests - at the end of chapters - worth twice as much as quizzes
Projects/Written Work - occasionally; individual or partner - equal to either a quiz or a test
Homework - must be turned in the day it is due or you receive a zero
-- worth 10% of your grade (percent = # turned in / # assigned)
-- graded as check, +, - , or redo (redo must be corrected and  turned in within 3 days)
End of Semester Exams - we will review! -- worth 20% of your semester grade
