1855: 3rd marriage to Mary Ellen James Barnes on 15 February 1855 in Union Co., NC
1856: joined Waxhaw church and was ordained by the elders and deacons of Mill Creek and Flint Hill churches
October 1857: delegate from Waxhaw Church to the Brown Creek Union Baptist Association, appointed to the Itinerant Committee that set salary of $1.50 per day. Silas served as Itinerant Pastor for many years in addition to his duties at his own church/churches
1858 & 1859: Pastor of Waxhaw Church, one of the organizers of Olive Branch on 30 October 1858, 67 days at Itinerant in 1858
1859: Itinerant service 41 days, preached 28 sermons and traveled 515 miles, appointed Associational Itinerant with salary $1.50 per day, one of the delegates from Waxhaw Church.
1860: one of the delegates of Waxhaw Baptist, one of the four appointed associational missionaries, traveled 130 days, preached 190 sermons, visited 85 families, & traveled 1,660 miles
2 August 1861: organized the Bethel Church
1861: delegate from Mineral Springs Church in Anson Co.
October 1862: delegate from Mineral Springs
1863: preached the introductory sermon at Mt. Olive Church. No minutes exist for 1863 or 1864 sessions. Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist was constituted on 27 April 1833. Silas J. Fincher is listed as one of their pastors but the exact dates are not known.
October 1864: delegate from Mineral Springs and from Charlotte, NC
October 1866: elected Moderator
October 1869: one of the delegates from Mineral Springs, reelected Moderator, pastor at Deep Creek Baptist & reported 117 of the total 264 baptisms for the entire Association, appointed a missionary and worked 20 days for $2.00 per day
1869 or 1870: pastor of Monroe Baptist Church
7 October 1870: delegate from Mineral Springs, appointed to a screening committee for all potential ministerial candidates
Census: 1870 Chesterfield Co. Old Store Township SC, probably accepted the pastorate of Elizabeth Baptist Church at Mt. Croghan about this time
1871: gave introductory sermon
Summer of 1874: Baptized new member into White Plain Church so probably pastor or itinerant pastor of White Plain Church (probably in Chesterfield Co., SC)
October 1875: S. J. Fincher was one of the messengers from the Mt. Moriah Association in SC. This was the last that Silas was listed as attending the Brown Creek Union Baptist Association annual session.
About December 1879: suffered a stroke in the pulpit at Cross Roads Baptist Church in Chesterfield Co., SC, paralyzed until his death 6 months later
1880 session of the Mt. Moriah Association obituary of Silas J. Fincher states that he was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church at the time of his death on 30 May 1880. Although Silas died in late May, listed in 21 June 1880 Census: Chesterfield Co., Mt. Croghan, SC with paralysis.
