Screen Saver - A program that helps prolong a monitor's life by saving it from permanent ghosting.

Scroll-to move text up and down and left and right on the screen

Scroll Bar-used to show and control ("scroll") which portion of a document is currently visible in a window. A window may have a horizontal or, most often, vertical scroll bar or both; contains a "bubble" whose position in the scroll bar represents the position of the visible part within the whole document.

Service-An electronic service that allows you to communicate with others using your computer and a modem.

Shift Key-key on a keyboard that is used to capitalize letters when pressed with that letter key

Sign-on name-The name other people will use when they communicate with you electronically.

Single space (SS)-when keying text, the act of spacing text one line apart.

Softcopy-output from a computer that you can see or hear, but cannot touch
                   Example: output from a monitor or speaker

Software-A set of electronic instructions that tells a computer what to do.

Space Bar-key on a keyboard that spaces the cursor forward one space at a time and produces a blank space when pressed

Special Function Keys-keys that carry out specific things
                                      Example: shift keys, return/enter keys, caps lock key

Spell Checker-part of a word processing program that uses a disk-based dictionary to check and correct misspellings in documents.

Strike-to tab or press the key of a keyboard with a finger or thumb

Surge Protector-A device that protects a computer from fluctuations in power. A surge protector regulates the amount of electricity that flows to the computer and prevents high-voltage surges from damaging a computer.
