Naroon din ang katrabaho ni Freddie sa ABS-CBN Talent Center where he also works as TV Promo Coordinator.

But we had fun sa nasabing party. Nakisaya kina Cholo at Ketchup ang mga ka-Berks nilang sina Patrick Garcia, Carlo Aquino, Heart Evangelista, Angelica Panganiban, Sarah Christopher, John Barretto at Dustin Reyes. "Halos magkasunod ang birthday namin so we decided to celebrate it together," sabi ni Cholo.

Alex is looking forward to her Mano Po 2 role, that of Ingrid, the rebel daughter of the 3rd wife to be portrayed by Lorna T. Naka-schedule na ang kanyang first shooting day ng September 14. She’s also in the cast of Kapitan Kidlat, a Mikey Arroyo starrer. During their pictorial, very provocative yung suot niyang shorts kaya naging scene stealer siya. In the recently-concluded Bench Fashion show held at Glorietta Makati City, Alessandra was the most applauded by the audience, mostly from A and B crowd.

Sept. 11, 2003

Ms. LT's answer to the news below via text msg. ""7 wiks po. 7 scripts to go. Bale mga 14 taping days kc 2x a wik.

Bea Alonzo is relatively new in tinseltown. Barely two years in the business, she is very well aware that she can’t make make a name overnight. In fact, in that short span, she can count with fingers the number of times she was disappointed. But it’s the disappointments, she said, that drives her more to work harder. She dreamt of being a star since she was a child, now that she’s turning 16 and is just a few steps away from fulfilling her dreams, what reason there is to keep her from moving forward?

The discovery
The teen star is thankful to her discoverer, Mr. RJ Ilagan, who until now serves her as her business manager. “Marami na rin akong auditions na sinalihan, until Tito RJ discovered me and referred me to Mr. Johnny Manahan (ABS-CBN Talent Center head). I auditioned and was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the members of Star Circle Batch 10,” she narrates.
Then came a chance to be in a teen trio who for a time served as co-hosts in the Sunday variety show A.S.A.P. “Kami nina Angelene Aguilar and Pia, kami ‘yung parang underage/new generation A.S.A.P.”
After the group’s short hosting stint, she auditioned for the drama series Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. She passed. She was paired with John Lloyd Cruz. After a while, and as expected, her name became identified with her screen sweetheart’s name, thus giving birth to the John Lloyd Cruz-Bea Alonzo loveteam.
Bea acknowledges the fact that her team up with John Lloyd has greatly boosted her career. “Mas nakilala ako dahil parang ang dami agad nagkagusto sa team-up namin,” she says. In my case, naging napalaking tulong talaga ng tandem namin ni John Lloyd.”
She feels lucky for having the wholesome young actor as her love teamate. “He is a gentleman kasi and hindi siya ‘yung tipong magti-take advantage. Plus the fact that he is a very good actor. But John Lloyd is not like that. Lahat ng maituturo niya, isini-share niya.”
Bea finds her screen partner very handsome and attractive, “kaya madali siyang magugustuhan ng kahit sinong babae.” But she is aware tha John Lloyd has a real-life sweetheart in the person of Ciara Sotto, that’s why she is cautious enough not to come out as “kontrabida” to the pair’s relationship.
“I don’t think I have a reason to be afraid naman,” smiles the teen actress. “I think the fans nowdays are wise enough to understand na ‘yung trabaho ng mga artista, hiwalay sa totoong buhay nila.
“And even if I hear comments na ganu’n, I won’t let myself be affected. Alam kong marami pang intrigang darating and ready na ako.”
Stable career
And she won’t easily give up showbiz for some petty reasons. After all, she’s now beginning to see the fruits of her hard work. “May pinapasimulan na kaming bahay,” she reveals. She sees a more stable career in showbiz five or ten years from now. “By that time siguro na-achieve ko na kahit papaano ang goals ko. Dito ako nilinya ni God so kailangang pagbutihin ko.
“So years from now, I still see myself in the business. By that time, kailangang kahit papaano, na-recognize na ang kakayahan ko bilang artista.
She admits that’s she has a lot of improvement to do when it comes to acting. “Kailangan ko pang mahasa,” she says. I could have done it better.
I work to learn. I think that’s what’s good about working early in life.”
And fame was never her driving force in joining showbiz. “My main goal is to prove that I can be a good and effective actor. Acting has been my passion ever since.
It seems that every sign no is telling her she’s on the right track. With lady luck on her side, she might be her mother studio’s next bankable young star after Judy Ann Santos and Claudine Barreto as she debuts soon on the big screen with John Lloyd.
“I want to do more movies and play challenging roles,” she smiles. Even sexy roles?
“I’m not closing my doors but I think I’m still too young for that,” she laughs.

Getting to know John Lloyd Cruz
Aug 11, 2003

Quick wit

"WHAT school did you go to," was the first question.

John Lloyd Cruz answers, "As Yuri, I went to Harvard." Everybody in the room laughs.

The quick reply from the young man who plays Yuri the young lawyer in the telenovela "Kay Tagal Kitang Hinintay" is more than just a show of the actor's quick wit. It also shows how closely he is identified with his character in the popular daily soap on ABS-CBN, and it disproves his own claim that he fails at comedy as an actor.

"I want to be known as a versatile actor," the 20-year-old says over a hasty lunch while he's waiting for the script for the day's taping of the telenovela. "But I really fail at comedy. It's not my field, but I hope I will not be doing all drama."

Waiting for script

His role as Lorna Tolentino's son in "Kay Tagal," he confesses, represents the biggest pressure in his young life now. In his other regular drama series, Sunday afternoon's "Tabing Ilog" in the same network, John Lloyd also plays a serious role as Rovic. The difference, he explains, is that in "Tabing Ilog," the performers simply have to get the thought of the dialogue and then say their lines in their own words, while in "Kay Tagal," he and the other performers have to memorize their scripted lines word for word. Which explains why this early afternoon, John Lloyd and his road manager Danny, a girl, are restless throughout lunch while waiting for the script.

John Lloyd hails from Nueva Ecija, and it sometimes shows in the way he talks, when he uses Tagalog words and phrases unfamiliar to many of us, such as "mag-urong ng kinanan," when he means to say clear the dining table. He was one-third of the Koolits trio, which also included Baron Geisler and Mark Solis. The group had long disbanded. While John Lloyd and Baron are busy on television and in movies, Mark has disappeared from the public eye to go back to school. John Lloyd says he envies Mark because the latter was able to finish his studies.

In real life, John Lloyd, a member of Star Circle Batch 5, went to the Pasig Catholic College for his first year in high school. When he joined show business, he enrolled in a home study program.

Next year, he hopes to go back to school. He is supposed to be in college now and he plans to take up business administration. For a time, he admits, he was inspired to take up law because of his role in "Kay Tagal."

He plays Yuri and the love interest of Katrina (Bea Alonzo), in the prime time soap of Channel 2. "On second thought," he says, "I can't do it. It'll remain just a dream."

Wasted tears

John Lloyd himself is the stuff that fills the dream of many girls and young women who follow the telenovela. But he says that for a while, he thought he was having a nightmare himself. He was doing four shows on ABS-CBN -"Palibhasa Lalake," "ASAP," "Kaybol" and "Gimik"-when all four shows were axed one after another.

John Lloyd says he cried and thought it was the lowest point in his very young life. He thought it was the end of his short career. And he was also worried about the bills that had to be paid, including the installments on a van he had just bought at that time.

Now, John Lloyd, one of the hottest young stars on Philippine TV, smiles at the memory. "Those were wasted tears," he says.

What he did not know then was that a replacement for "Gimik" was already in the making. That new show was the Sunday afternoon youth soap, "Tabing Ilog," where he is now a regular along with fellow former "Gimik" stars Kaye Abad, Paolo Contis, Desiree del Valle, Jodie Santamaria, Patrick Garcia, Paula Peralejo and Baron.

After two years of "Tabing Ilog," John Lloyd bagged his biggest break when he landed the role in "Kay Tagal Kitang Hinintay." Not only does he get to work with the likes of Lorna Tolentino, Edu Manzano and Johnny Delgado in "Kay Tagal," he also gets the chance to sharpen his skills as an actor. Best of all, the lead role in the prime time daily soap guarantees him instant popularity as he follows in the footsteps of young men who became big stars with a lot of help from telenovelas, like Diether Ocampo, Jericho Rosales, even the late Rico Yan.

"She's really good, unique," John Lloyd searches for words as he describes how it is working with Lorna T. "One great privilege. Not just with Tita LT, but the whole cast. And the creative team, ang galing din. Sobra, ang laki ng naitulong sa akin ng 'Kay Tagal.'"Time with friends

In person, John Lloyd is much like his lawyer character: quiet, reserved, serious about his craft. In person, too, John Lloyd is slimmer than his TV image, and he's tall, all of 5-foot-11.

As an actor, he's not dreaming of winning awards this early, but he wants to be able to show more versatility and more depth.

He also wants to be like his favorite actors, two Johnnys -- Johnny Depp and Johnny Delgado.

An inevitable trade-off for his popularity is that he is always too busy to have time even for himself. What he misses most from normal life, he says, is time with his friends. "I don't get to see them as often as I want to," he says. If he had the time, he says, he would also like to indulge in sports. "I want to try surfing," he adds.

Told that Jericho Rosales, another ABS-CBN talent, manages to escape to La Union once in a while to surf, John Lloyd replies, "'I envy him. He has time to go to La Union."

House chores

Watching movies is the only form of relaxation that he can treat himself to. The last movie he saw at home was "About Schmidt" starring Jack Nicholson. For his fix of big screen entertainment, he goes to the Podium.

Eating is another favorite John Lloyd topic. For breakfast, he likes cow's milk in his fried rice. He has just started following a white meat diet and does not eat beef and pork anymore, just chicken, fish and vegetables. He will never ever eat okra, he says.

John Lloyd is not a lover of household chores either. Does he know how to cook? "I know how to eat," he replies. One chore he can do is "mag-urong," clearing the table and washing the dishes. But he wastes too much water when he washes plates, he confesses.

He does not have the patience to read thick books, not even Harry Potter. But right now, he is trying to finish Bach's "Jonathan Livingston Seagull," given to him by the telenovela's head writer. He says he used to love reading devotionals but he stopped because he couldn't find time for it anymore.

We tease him with a few slumbook questions, and he is game.

First kiss?
"Mommy!"

First love?
"God."

Crush?
"Secret."

CCF convert

Would we like to know his idea of an unforgettable date, John Lloyd asks.

"My dream date would be on a yacht, with a small orchestra. And then, of course, dinner. And while we're eating, the band is playing. I'd love it if we can be together until dawn."

But he declares, without missing a beat, that his girlfriend is Ciara Sotto, and they've been on for more than a year. When prodded to answer more questions about her and him together, John Lloyd immediately apologizes and says he prefers to keep his relationship private.

Sundays will find him driving, and going to church. One Sunday last year, he went with Ciara to a Christ Commission Fellowship. He enjoyed what he heard and he became a convert. "Joining the CCF, 'I think that's one of the biggest changes in my life. That molded me into what I am now."

Movie and Television Review and Classification Board Chair Consoliza Laguardia is a known big fan of John Lloyd. During a visit to ABS-CBN, she had pictures taken of her with the young star, and requested network officials to make his telenovela character more sympathetic.

How does he explain his popularity now?

"I think I was just given the right project at the right time," John Lloyd/Yuri replies softly, "and I feel very blessed."(INQ7)

Dina Out, Lorna In!

It’s definite: The much-fought-over role of the "third-wife" in Regal Films’ 2003 Metro Filmfest Mano Po 2 now belongs to Lorna Tolentino, with her "protagonist" Dina Bonnevie finding herself out in the cold, holding an empty bag. Yes, Dina is out of the Mano Po cast even if she already attended the movie’s presscon and has been telling the whole world that she’s be playing the coveted "third-wife," the same role promised to Lorna by Regal Matriarch Mother Lily who, in the end, realized that Lorna fits the role better than Dina does.

Lorna and Dina have been, well, "bumping heads" over roles lately. In Star Cinema’s Pagsasamang Kay Ganda: Noon at Ngayon, directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya (who was inspired by her 80s’ classic movie Moral), the role of a balikbayan (who comes home to take care of her cancer-stricken mother, played by Laurice Guillen) played by Dina was originally meant for Lorna who simply shrugged it off and breathed not a single (harsh) word.

Actually, even if Dina appears to be an "underdog," it’s the prerogative of the producer and/or director to drop or add anybody to the cast. Remember how the late Lino Brocka junked the late Jay Ilagan as lead actor of the now-classic Maynila sa Mga Kuko ng Liwanag and replaced him with newcomer Bembol Roco even if Jay had already shot for one week?

Dina and her manager, a certain Arnold Vegafria, are hurting – understandably. According to a Funfare source, this certain Arnold Vegafria "screamed" at Mother Lily when he learned the other night that Lorna was "it" (as third-wife) and Dina was out, and threatened to sue Mother Lily for, don’t look now, "lost opportunity." What’s that? Check out a legal book near you.

This certain Arnold Vegafria is also reportedly poised to declare a "word war" on Lolit Solis, Lorna’s manager, who threatened to pull out Christopher de Leon, his other talent in the Mano Po cast, if Lorna wouldn’t get the "third-wife" role. (Of course, in real life, all women prefer to be the first wife and not–never!–the second or the third. But the Mano Po "third-wife" role is said to be "challenging" and "demanding," thus the big row and the big brouhaha.)

The plot is getting thicker. With Dina’s manager taking on Lolit, a noted (notorious?) gerilyera, expect explosions you’ve never heard during the mutiny/"failed coup." Dina’s manager is a relative greenhorn in the field while Lolit has clout and a name/reputation which, in some situations, can send shivers down the spine of producers.

Dina has let loose quite a mouthful about the issue while Lorna, every inch a lady, has remained mum. The "war" is shifting between this certain Arnold Vegafria and Lolit Solis. Brace yourselves for interesting times on national television.

WHEN John Lloyd Cruz was tapped to play the pivotal role of Lorna Tolentino's long-lost son, Yuri in the teleserye, "Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay," the young star was ecstatic.

He eagerly attended the workshops for the young actors in the cast.

In "Kay Tagal," former street kid Yuri becomes a sensible and dignified young lawyer with the help of his surrogate father, Mirdo (played by Ronnie Lazaro), and mentor, Dmitri (Johnny Delgado).

On his first taping day, John Lloyd kept trembling, and he eventually broke down. "I felt I wasn't able to give justice to the role," he recalls.

He is grateful to Delgado, who helped him delineate his role. "I learned a lot from him," says John Lloyd about the veteran actor. "Sabi niya, dapat walang pattern ang acting ko, and that I should focus more on my character."

John Lloyd is also in the Sunday-afternoon youth series, "Tabing Ilog," which is shot on location in Laguna. And he will play a lead role in a Star Cinema movie this year-a twin bill that will feature two of the most popular love teams now: John Lloyd and Bea Alonzo, and John Prats and Heart Evangelista.

When a whitening soap brand conducted market research a few months ago, they found out that many people wanted John Lloyd to endorse their product. "But I thought hard before I accepted the offer of Silka," the actor relates. "Then I found out na hindi naman ako gagamit ng sabon sa commercial, so OK lang."

Sino ang manunulot kina Dina at LT?
Pilipino STAR Ngayon 07/16/2003

Lorna T. was also offered a role in this film reportedly to be directed by Erik Matti. LT wanted so much to portray the role of the third wife. We don’t know the real score, kung para kanino talaga ang role na yun, only Mother Lily can shed light to this controversy. – Ben De La Cruz

Bea says she’s ‘not guilty’
FUNFARE By Ricardo F. LoThe Philippine Star 07/12/2003

Televiewers who are glued to the ABS-CBN top-rating soap Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay may be pleasantly surprised to find Bea Alonzo (playing Katrina to John Lloyd Cruz’s Yuri) in person not as mature as she seems to be on the small screen. In the soap, Bea as a young lawyer (like John Lloyd) acts with the intensity of a veteran even if she’s actually a relative greenhorn, launched by ABS-CBN’s Talent Center as member of Star Circle Batch 10. She doesn’t look nor act at all like the 15-year-old that she really is (turning sweet sixteen on Oct. l7).

That’s why when John Lloyd and real-life girlfriend Ciara Sotto, both into their early 20’s, were rumored (proven to be, yes, "false alarm") to have broken up, some people suspected Bea to be the "third party". There were even speculations (also proven to be groundless) that Talent Center advised John Lloyd to lie low on his romance with Ciara and focus his attention on his team-up with Bea. Asked about the John Lloyd/Ciara issue which was nipped in the bud when John Lloyd showed up at Ciara’s 22nd birthday bash last week and gave her a diamond-studded ruby ring as gift, Bea flashed a sweet Close-Up smile (she’ll make a perfect endorser of that toothpaste, won’t she?), as if to say, "No, I’m not guilty!"

Yes, Ciara invited her to the party but Bea begged off because she was tied down with work.

"I was surprised that my name was dragged into the issue," added Bea whose father is Briton and mother, a Filipina (Bea’s real name is Angellie Phylbert Ranollo). "But I understand that it’s one of the hazards of the trade, part of the job. The truth is that there’s nothing between John Lloyd and me. John Lloyd draws a clear line between the professional and the personal. In fact, on the Kay Tagal set, we never talked about the issue at all."

Describing Ciara and John Lloyd as inteligent (matalino), Bea said that they – and, hopefully, the fans, too, who would rather see "Katrina" and "Yuri" end up in each other’s arms – should know what the truth is. "I have nothing to explain."

Bea, who claimed that she has never had any boyfriend (too young, you know), did meet Ciara once at Starbucks at the ground floor of the Eugenio Lopez, Jr. Communication Center (adjacent to the ABS-CBN studios). They were there during a break from a taping (Bea) and a recording (Ciara). It was Shaina Magdayao (Vina Morales’ sister) who introduced them to each other. "Mukha naman siyang mabait," Bea said.

Same with John Lloyd with whom Bea has been working for seven months now on Kay Tagal (supposed to end last month but was extended up to the end of September), oftentimes taping 24 hours straight twice or thrice a week.

"I can’t say that John Lloyd and I are close; we’re friends pero hindi kami close. On the set, we don’t open up to each other. We discuss our roles but we never talk about anything personal. John Lloyd is quiet, deep, secretive, moody and very mysterious. I never intrude into his space – and vice-versa."

Saying she was ready for anything when she joined showbiz, Bea at a tender age has learned how not to be adversely affected by intrigues and controversies. "When you know yourself," said Bea who’s a cross between Jestoni Alarcon and Lara Fabregas, "you have nothing to worry about. I focus myself on my work. I keep in mind the best advice that somebody has given me – If you set a goal for yourself, go for it, give it your best."

Followers of Kay Tagal shouldn’t sulk once the soap closes in September. The loveteam might topbill another soap. But before that, they’ll star in their first movie together, First Romance, possibly with another young loveteam, John Prats and Heart Evangelista, as co-stars, with Don Cuaresma (Kay Tagal second unit director) at the helm. Bea is now also busy promoting the Kara Nina Cosmetic Kits (available at all SM outlets nationwide) which is very popular among people her age. It’s her "debut" as a solo product endorser (she and John Lloyd are image models of Outland footwear).

FROM PILIPINO STAR TODAY ni Eric John Salut

"I think too much.

"Not on a regular basis, sinubukan ko lang. Nahirapan lang talaga ako’ng gumising, so take ako para makatulog agad," aniya.

Excited at the same time napi-feel na umano ni John Lloyd ang pressure ‘pag ginawa na nila ni Bea ang kanilang

launching movie.

Regarding Ciara Sotto, ayaw sabihin ni John Lloyd kung ano ang birthday wish niya sa young actress, even as he confided to us what he gave her.

Ibinigay ng aktor ang birthday gift niya kay Ciara on the eve of her birthday nu’ng July 2.

Lorna & Dina Feuding?

THE shooting of Regal's "Mano Po 2" has yet to start but we heard two of its stars are already feuding over the most colorful role in the story. Both Lorna Tolentino and Dina Bonnevie want to play the role of Christopher de Leon's scheming and villainous third wife. "The role was promised to me and I like it dahil may pagkakontrabida ang dating," says Dina, who plays a similar role in GMA-7's "Narito ang Puso Ko" as Raymond Bagatsing's unfaithful wife who's having an affair with Monsour del Rosario.

"I told Mother Lily that if I'd play the role of the obedient second wife, ayoko na because it has no more challenge for me," says Lorna. "Ilang beses ko na kasing nagawa 'yon. I want to play a bad character naman."

Let's see who'd finally get the role. Meantime, is it true Maricel Soriano, who was in the first "Mano Po," felt hurt when she was not included in "Mano Po 2." Because of this, we heard Maricel accepted Viva's offer, their own December filmfest entry entitled "Filipinas," where she'll play Lolita Rodiguez most caring daughter. Boyet de Leon is also supposed to be in this film, but since he's now with Viva, Richard Gomez (who's also in the original "Mano Po") is being wooed to replace him to play the role of the eldest son. In which case, this will be a reunion for Maricel, Goma, and their "Mano Po" director, Joel Lamangan, who's megging "Filipinas."

Marvin & John Lloyd Kindred Spirits

Marvin Agustin and John Lloyd Cruz have many things in common. They are managed by the ABS-CBN Talent Center. Both share good-looks and natural acting talent that make them stand out among their peers, plus a refreshing and determined attitude towards work.
Marvin says he had an important realization in his recent trip to the United States. During the Holy Week, he visited friends and toured three states, including New York where he caught the musicales Mama Mia and Aida Verde among others. "It was while watching those musicales that I felt for the first time acting isn't just about me having fun and earning in the process. Watching those musicales made me realize how powerful acting can be, how it can touch lives and affect people."
Meanwhile, John Lloyd realized his more serious calling towards acting early last year. "It was a time when I wanted to leave everything behind and just pack my bags to join my brother in the States. I felt my life was going nowhere. But after a long talk with Tita Mariole (Alberto of the ABS-CBN Talent Center), I was enlightened that I can do so much more.... that acting is what I really like and I can excel in it. I also realized things will happen if you work hard."
These two artists may as well be proofs of that. Marvin has earned not only good notices from show business observers but also from a faithful public that has seen him through his early acting stints to his current outings as part of the new soap opera Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas and the weekly drama Tabing Ilog and in Star Cinema's Ang Tanging Ina.
"I enjoy doing drama very much," says Marvin. "It's really cathartic for me. I feel I can express myself more." But does this mean he'll turn his back on comedy? "No. I also enjoy doing Whattamen! I love my co-stars in Whattamen! and enjoy working with them. In fact, I'm very proud of the show. I can compare it actually to the US sitcom Friends because our characters are well developed and well written and the show is fast-paced."
For his part, John Lloyd has gone from his early stint as a young, cutesy-patootsy matinee idol (as part of the now defunct Koolits) to a career as a dramatic actor with a Best Actor trophy from the Star Awards for Television (for his role as Rovic in Tabing Ilog). John Lloyd is now part of the soap opera Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, which has launched his love team with fledgling actress Bea Alonzo. "I like working with Bea," says John Lloyd. "She's a sweet, nice girl I can talk to about anything and everything. She's also a good actress."
John Lloyd and Bea were recently tapped by Outland Footwear to be their endorsers. "We want to reach out to the young market," says Jun Lim of Outland Footwear, a company specializing on sandals that are reasonably priced and available in major department stores. "John Lloyd and Bea are very popular among the young crowd, good-looking and very talented and we feel they'll go a long, long way."
In fact, it's not only Outland that's banking on the tandem of John Lloyd and Bea. Star Cinema is set to produce a movie that will launch the two and will probably open in June. And to complement that, Outland plans to launch the love team via billboards and high profile print ads in various publications. "We're going all out here," reveals Jun. "We're very excited about what John Lloyd and Bea can bring to the company and we like to be part of their phenomenal growth."
To this John Lloyd says, "It's quite flattering they have so much faith in us. I just hope we won't disappoint them. I'm like that kasi eh. When I get into something, I give my best and I want to emerge as the best." John Lloyd dreams of tackling diverse roles. "Something like what Johnny Depp does. He takes on different roles, from the quirkiest to the darkest and he does them all extremely well. I really idolize him."
In the same light, Marvin wishes to do roles that will further challenge him artistically. "Acting is what I love to do and I want to really excel in it. Acting is a continuous process and I intend to be better in what I do."
And so, Marvin and John Lloyd, two of the most refreshing young stars around, are not inclined to rest on their laurels. "Many people belittle actors because they think what we do is easy," says John Lloyd. "It's not easy. Acting is a serious profession and it's my calling."
"Acting is an art and it's a noble profession," declares Marvin. "Nothing can beat the high it gives me. My goal as an actor is to reach out to as many people I can. When I can get to touch at least one person with my acting, then I can say that I've realized my goal as an actor." Marvin delivers a sterling performance as Ai Ai de las Alas' eldest son in Star Cinema's Ang Tanging Ina, which is breaking box-office records. –

http://www.showbizpinoy.com/gossip/2003/june_wk1/john_lloyd_cruz.htm

Inabot din daw ng 1:30 a.m dahil nag-taping sila for another episode.

FRONT SEAT Ni Cristy FerminPilipino STAR Ngayon 06/28/2003

* * *

Pero maaga siyang na-in love.

“Ciara Sotto, pa’no ka magkaholding hands palagi? John Lloyd, inlab na kay Bea Alonzo”
by: Ador V. Saluta (Adore Me! Published: 16-June-03)
Fr: Bulgar Tabloid Newspaper

LT NEWS (Published 06-09-03) from FRANKLY SPEAKING by Vinia Vivar

ARTICLES INSIDE BITUIN MAG

How do you like working with John Lloyd?
Ok lang, he's good. He helps me a lot, like for instance, he shares some tips, inputs like "what are we going to do with this particular scene? I think it is much better if you do this," ganon.
He's a professional, I love working with him. Added bonus is the friendship that we have.

Do you agree that you and John Lloyd have a good chemistry on
TV7
Hmm. Yes. I think so. There's friendship involved eh. I think it's a plus factor.

Did you know that "Yuri & Katrina" have a strong name recalls?
(smiles.) Yeah, actually when we have mall shows or TV guestings, I hear people saying, "oh, it's Katrina & Yuri".
Nakakatuwa. And sometimes they even call me "Summer," because I once used the name "summer" in Kay Tagal-

Are you friends in and out of camera?
Uhuh! Yes, we're friends.

Do you share something in common?
Hmm... well, for one, John Lloyd is the silent type eh. Ako, sometimes tahimik sometimes not. But we're both really the silent type. On the set, we usually just spend our time reviewing the script, throwing lines. We do this specially when there's a heavy scene.

Are there any plans for a movie starring the twoof you, just like what Echo & Kristine had? Oh, I don't know. Well, I hope sana po. It's up tomanagement really. But then, I think it's still too
early for that.

Did you really want to be an actress?
Oh yes! Know what, I remember when I was still in school, sa Colegio de Sta. Ana, I loved joining and taking part in various school contests, events and programs. But since si mama, hindi
mahilig sa ganyan, I would sometimes join without mama's knowledge.

How did you get into showbiz?
I joined a beauty pageant in our community, then someone noticed me (my discoverer/ manager, Mr. Archie llagan) and he asked me if I'd like to try showbiz. One thing lead to another.
We went to the Talent Center and tried to audition for Star Circle's up and coming batch, which is Batch 10. We barely made it to the deadline. Luckily, the Center's Assistant VP saw me and
she asked me if I would like to audition. I said yes. I became a member of Star Circle Batch 10.

Why did you get into showbiz?
I wanted to work, but not just work. I wanted to be in a different
world. And I (actors) I get envious. I wanted to be with them, I wanted them to notice me, to make them see that I also have
talent.

What do you hate most in your
work?
The puyatan. It's so hard, but I can't do anything about it. It's part of the job-

What do you consider as your biggest break so far?
Landing and Playing the role of Katrina Argos in Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay.

Did you audition for the role?
Yes, I did. We actually did. There were so many who auditioned.

How did you feel when you learned that you got the role?
Nervous! I got so nervous lalo na when I learned that Ms. Lorna Tolentino was included in the cast, aswellasTito Johnny Delgado. They actually informed me that I'm included in the cast the day before the workshop. I was so nervous that I couldn't sleep. I only met the whole cast during the workshop. I was somewhat afraid that they might not like me. But then, of course, it was just me anticipating the worst. They turned out to be very friendly.

Did you know from the start that you'd be paired with John Lloyd?
Yes. But Lloyd & I didn't know that it would be that big a story (yung love angle namin).

Any dream roles?
I like to essay the role of a special child, or a mentally-challenged individual. That would be very challenging indeed.

Any particular actor/actress you'd like to work with?
Aside from Ms. LT and Tito Johnny, I would really love to act
opposite Ms. Maricel Soriano or Ms. Sharon Cuneta. I'm sure I'd
learn great things from them.

Getting personal
Who is Katrina Argos?
Katrina is a law student. She is strong, capable.independent and very loving. She has a sister, Helena. Actually, Katrina's priority is her family. She'd give up even her own happiness and sacrifice
her love just to make her family intact.

Who is Bea as a friend, a daughter,and a girlfriend ?
Si Bea, as a friend, she's always there when you need her. As a girlfriend? Nah, I don't have a special someone yet and ayoko pa po. As a daughter, well only mama can answer that. (Her mom's word; I don't have problems with Bea, very kind and masunurin. Hope she stays that way.)

Do you still have time to hang out? Gimmicks? No, I am not allowed pa to hang out. Sa house lang po talaga and of course sa clubhouse. On mailing: very seldom po, kasi I'm more of a homebody eh.

What keeps you busy at home?
I just watch movies, play video games. Sometimes I play badminton or table tennis with friends.

What's your favorite movie?
Movie? Ay! A Walk to Remember, grabe! Wala pong kamatayan. I don't know. I just love that movie, it's so romantic. My friends are actually laughing at me. And speaking of favorites, my fave color is pink.

Do you sing?
Yes, but not professionally. They would not allow me. (giggles) But I get to sing during mall shows, and guestings.

Stage fright?
Yes, before, especially during the first few months of my career. I was so shy. But later on, I gained confidence.

Define happiness
Complete happiness is when you make people happy and by knowing that youire a big part of what made them happy. It's a complete bliss when you're at peace with everyone and wala kang nasasagasaan.

Can you say that you are happy now?
Oh yes! The way my career is going. I feel so blessed. Actually, by just being invited for mall shows, tv guestings. I feel elated na.

Any crushes?
Oh my! It's Justin Timberlake.
Locally?
(giggles) Si Piofo Pascual! And of course, si Aga Mulach.

What do you think is your best physical asset?
My eyes. They are expressive. I think, people could easily read through me because of my eyes.

Do you like surfing the net?texting?
Surfing, not really. I have little time to surf. As for texting, well, I'm a text addict! But I only text the people I know. I don't entertain text from strangers.

Just like any ordinary youngster, what's in your "kikay" kit?
Magulo po ang bag ko. Well, there's powder, lip balm, cellphone, cologne, tissue, and Pond's cold cream.

What's your favorite get-up?
T-shirt, pants/Jeans, rubber shoes and sometimes I wear a bandanna.

Hobbies, personal collections?
Playing badminton, watching Disney movie, reading magazines. I am not much of a booklover. The only book I read was "A walk to remember." I prefer magazines. I love browsing through its colorful pages. My collections include stationeries and yung mga piggy stuff.

Do you write?
Ay, hobby ko din yan. Before, I used to write poems, you know, those romantic stuff. Can you give us a stanza or a sample?
I remember writing something about love when I was in fourth grade. It goes something like: "Adam & Eve invented it, Romeo & Juliet endured it, I care coz I need it".

How do see yourself 5 years from now?
Hmm. Actually I'm saving money eh. I really want to have a usiness. I hope to see myself as an owner of a bookstore or a specialty shop like Gift Gate.

What's the best lesson or advice your mom ever taught you?
Simple lang. First, I have to be happy in what I do. She tells me "don't do things, just for the sake of doing it. It's not enough that you can do it. You have to give your best shot."
