Signs of Autumn
Summer time is gone my friends
It slowly comes but quickly ends
It's been replaced by time called Autumn

Nature changes hues from top to bottom
Green gives way to red and gold
A lovely vision to behold

Whirling leaves go blowing by
Carrying smells of pumpkin pie
The air turns crisp the sky fades grey
Indian corn and bales of hay

Over coats and apple cider
No more evenings on the glider
The harvest moon so orange and round
Holidays will soon abound

Chrysanthemum petals start to unfold
A lovely vision to behold
Autumn

Autumn Storehouse
I'd like to take October days
And store them in my mind,
To warm me during Winter's reign
When nature proves unkind.

Then I remember sunshine,
The Autumn rich with gold,
And tawny fields a-flower
With wonders quite untold

My thoughts will ease the moments
When in reverie I dwell,
And linger for the present
In some bright majestic dell.

Autumn Fire
In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The gray smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
Fires in the fall!

Five Little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one said, "Oh, my it's getting late."
The second one said,  "There are witches in the air.
The third one said, "But we don't care!"
The fourth one said, "Let's run and run and run."
The fifth one said, "I'm ready for some fun!"
Wooooo, went the wind
And out went the light
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

Halloween
Halloween was one of Melanie's favorite holidays.  She looked forward to the day with thrills and giggles.  She would spend days on finding just the right costume.  Her first costume at age two was as "Mary" from "Little House On The Prairie."  The show was very popular then and Mel's older sister, Trinity, insisted that they go as Laura and Mary Ingalls.  Melanie, being so young, didn't enjoy her first experience as a "trick-or-treater" that year.  Too many ghosts and goblins.  But she did enjoy the rewards afterwards.  The next year she went as "Baby Apple Dumplin" to Trinity's "Strawberry Shortcake" a popular cartoon for the time.

Over the years Melanie's costumes varied according to what was popular.  But the most favorite were the ones that were made up and created by her own imagination.  Thru the years she was a "black cat," a "Barbie Doll," a "cheerleader," a "witch," and a "50's Bobby Socker" to name a few.  Each costume thought out and planned to the last detail.  Often times I ended up sewing them for her.  But I didn't mind.

Melanie continued to enjoy Halloween even after she became too old to trick-or-treat.  Often times she would dress up for the fun of it and would volunteer to take her younger sisters, Miranda and Brittany, around the neighborhood trick-or-treating.  She loved planning Halloween parties or haunted houses on our screened porch or in the basement.  She would spend hours decorating the yard with ghosts, goblins and witches, spreading fake spider webs, lighting luminaires, building scare crows and carving jack-o-lanterns.  She loved trying to scare the neighborhood kids or her  sisters with a trick or with spooky, creepy music and soundtracks.  What Fun!!  I can still hear her laugh with glee and mischievousness.
This Is Halloween
Goblins on the doorstep,
Phantoms in the air,
Owls on witches gateposts
Giving stare for stare,
Cats on flying broomsticks,
Bats against the moon,
Stirrings round of fate-cakes
With a solemn spoon,
Whirling apple parings,
Figures draped in sheets,
Dodging, disappearing,
Up and down the streets,
Jack-o-lanterns grinning,
Shadows on a screen,
Shrieks and starts with laughter
This is Halloween!

Trick Or Treat
The night is dim
And the pumpkins grin
At children on the porch.
The doorbell rings,
"Trick or Treat" they sing.
My heart burns like a torch.
The dracula's face
And a princess in lace
are peering at me.
How I'd love to ask
"May I lift your mask?"
And hiding, there you'd be!
You'd get such a kick
From that silly trick,
But disguised you must stay.
My herat still knows
You're playing
October charades.

Halloween
There's a ghost on my doorstep
and that witch---
she's a pain.
Some people threw a party here
and then went away.
My treat bag is empty.
I think it might rain.
Without you,
Halloween just isn't the same.

I MISS YOU!

I Got My Graphics At:
With each passing season Melanie always looked forward to the next one. She loved Fall.  From Fall's crisp, clear days  and gloriously blue skys to the brilliantly colored leaves of orange, red and gold.  Oh! how she loved to play in the leaves.  Scattering more than she raked.  Raking only long enough to make a giant fragrant pile to jump in.  She and her little sisters would have such fun rolling around in the fallen leaves, tossing them at each other or taking turns burying one another under mounds of oak and maple leaves.  Then when the laughter and play was over She and I loved to walk in the leaves  just to hear the crisp, rustling sound they made under our feet as we strolled along.  Melanie loved to go walking on cool Autumn days.  She used to take long walks in the woods, venturing far and wide, trying to get lost to see if she could find her way back home again.  She always did.
Melanie loved fall for ball games, band practice and band exhibitions.  A chance to perform on the field before a stadium full of fans.  Always the  performer, Melanie would just sparkle.  We would always call out her name, when we watched her perform, even though she said it made her nervous, her face would always light-up whenever she'd hear us and she would just beam with a grin from ear to ear.  Oh! how I miss those Autumn Days!
