Harmast Farblown, I see where you are coming from with the fantasy cooking and the S.C.A. stuff but what I mean is that when a feast is billed as period it should be so and that we will help members to find the research and recipies for that purpose. If a feast is fantasy then, well that is up to the autocrat. (chili and nachos may not be the best choice though) I suppose the best way to handle a fantasy feast is to find a basic theme and go from that point (period recipies may or may not be the way to go) In some cases it would be best to have a mix of period and fantasy foods. For the purposes of this site however I would like to stick mainly with early period cooking as later period and Ren cooking is so well represented on the net and in print, and fantasy cooking is up to the creativity of the cook. Please do, however, feel free to submit to the site any info you would like, on the fantasy based cooking that you may do and we will pass it along or maybe even start-up a page on the site specificaly for hose fantasy based goodies... EBER BAINE

I like you site, especially the research section. However, I do have one difference of opinion with you. Given this is Amtgard, not a more historical group, I do not object to the use of new world or modern foodstuffs IF they are used in period ways. M philosophy of Amtgard cooking is that we should duplicate techniques and styles of the middle ages and ancient period more than concentrate on using exacting period recipes and ingredients. I did the exact period thing in the SCA. So what are those techniques? The use of in season foods or food preserved by period methods, the use of lots of sauces, the use of lots of pastry, and so on. A great way to learn those techniques is using period recipes (which I do encourage...everytim I have written an Amtgard Feast bid I have ensured at least 50% of my recipes were period and that the non-period ones were stylistically period). However, as a fantasy group, I think we should use the opprotunity to expand our recipe choices.

It is nice to see a site devoted to the cooking arts of the day. Keep it coming, since I both enjoy reading and sampling of this art (especially the sampling of the art).

Hi, I didn't realize there was such a thing. I would like very much to join. The New Kingdom of Neverwinter is mundanely in Florida and our summers are obviously brutal. I haven't seen much indication that anyone here cares if the food served at feast is hist rically accurate, but I do. I am interested in hearing other Feast-o-crats experiences both before and after feasts. I look forward to sharing recipes with you in the future. I can be reached at [email protected]

I'm interested in joining the Guild, if nothing else so that our feast food can be the best in the Kingdom. Though I confess to being intrigued by the notion of a tavern...I am best contacted at [email protected]
