This is Knucklehead Fred, I found him tied to a baseball backdrop in the early morning hours of December back in 1996. I took him in, he will be 7 years old in December. I'm pretty sure he is Rott/Shep mix. Entered by Rebecca

Doggie Rex, I just got him this past June from the humane society, I was told a terrier mix, but I can defently see some german shepard. When I first met Rex, I noticed he had a black tounge and I know that those traits only are from a Chow Chow and a Shar Pei, Rex is only 40 lbs, he looks much bigger in that pic, but he is just a skinny little guy.
I rescued Jackie from a very high kill shelter in GA. She is a JRT/sheltie mix. She is a year now. He best friend is my kitty Sophie. She is a total love bug. Entered by Becky Of GA

Meet Harley, a very special dog. Harley began life as a neglected "dumped on the side of the road" puppy. He is now a service dog/animal assisted therapy dog working at a therapeutic riding center that serves individuals with disabilities. His duties are many and he performs them to perfection. One of his duties is to respond to complete sentences including multi-step instructions in not only English, but sign language. There are many dogs currently in shelters that could serve in similar settings. If Harley is featured as your "dog of the month" you would be helping spread the word to the public about these dogs.
I am so WONDERFUL! My name is Bea ( "Beaver" to my friends) My Mommy, Ashley, rescued me from the vet clinic she works for ( I was going to be used for experimental brain surgery the next day!) I am a GSD/ Lab mix and I am full of love and snuggles! I have a great zest for life and frisbees, and for being mutt of the month!!!

This is Country and she was found on a country road at 5 months old and taken to a shelter. We went to a shelterone day to look for a pet and we saw her, she was soooo sweet and wirey looking. Country is now 17 years old and has been the best ever friend and means everything to us. She loves to have her pic taken and loves to let me do anything I want to her for a pic, hahaha. As you can see... Her hearing is going and her sight is a bit bad now and getting up is a chore for her, but she never yeps or has a moody day.... she is always there by our side waiting for a loving hug!
This is my PeaDee, rescued 6 months ago. She is a handful, but such a cuddler! The rescue group originally said she was "Rott/Hound" but had crossed out Rott and put Shep. I think she is Rottie/Shepard. Her favorite activities are eating pillows (we're working on that one), chasing squirrels, playing fetch, going to dog class and 'spooning'. She is defineately my love-bug!

Hi, My name is Paul. In 1991 I was without a job and barely making it and then I was diagnosed with AIDS, I was depressed and feeling defeated. I was walking home and saw a puppy eating in a garbage can. The dog followed me home but I already had a dog at home and in the state that I was in I really didn't want the added responsibility. But, this little dog would not give up. For days he kept coming back and all my attempts to find an owner had failed. Needless to say I have this dog still today. I think the poem I wrote about Spunky expresses it best: Eating in a garbage can a puppy all alone. He followed me, I chased him off but not if I had known, against all odds this little dog would make my house his home. His will is strong my patience weak this dog was here to stay, he came to me a gift from GOD showing me the way. Surviving never giving up, a puppy all alone. Of course, I named him Spunky and together we have grown. The vet estimated that he was a little over a year old when I had found him. I am so grateful and dedicated to this wonderful dog. Here is Spunky 12 years later, we are at the park with our dog group that we meet with every night. Sincerely, Paul Peach
Augie is a 2 and a half year old Shepherd mix we adopted from the Northshore Animal League. He is about 60 lbs, but thinks he's a lapdog. His best friends are my two cats. He has a goofy demeanor and when we walk him, passersby smile at his flopping ears and obvious enthusiasm for life. We created a word for Augie's affectionate tendency to immediately slobber kisses on anyone who shows him affection. We call this 'snarging'.
