Katie's Art Work
This was my first painting.  I painted it when I was 16.  It is a watercolor and won a painting merit award in the Northwast Regional Art Exibit (NWAE)
This is my second painting.  It is the first time that I worked with acrylic paint. There was a lot of trial and error in this one.
THis was my second acrylic painting and 3rd overall.  Tt is a painting of my dog Dixie who passed away in 2001.  This painting was done in 2000 when I was 16.  Having never even drawn a dog before, this was one of my more frustrating paintings to do.  There was a lot of repainting and expirimenting with this one
This is my moms painting.  She always wanted a painting without an animal in it, so I painted this one.  It was my first landscape and won 1st prize in the NWRAE. This was painted in 2001.
This is a personal favorite of mine.  I jsut love the wildness of big cats and ran into a photograph that I immediately wanted to paint.  This was done when I was 17
This is a painting of my dog Gracie who I got in summer of 2001.  I put this painting together by meshing two photographs that I had of her into one.  I have had offers to buy this painting, but have declined them due to the sentimental value of it.  This  painting took an extremely long time to paint.  I Painted the dog twice.  Once in Blues where the black is (makes it shiney) and orange where the brown is (makes it a richer color.  This won a prize in  a high school league touurnament.  It was painted in 2002.
These two photographs were taken in 2002.  I had been doing photography since 2000 but these are the first that are so big, and very planned.  They were taken soon after the disaster on sept 11th 2001.  I wanted to capture something about that time with Gracie.  The one on the right is my favorite picture of her.  She just looks so sad.
This is my biggest painting.  it is 3'x4'.  It was painted in about 3 weeks (a huge rush!) I wanted to have this one ready to enter in a art contest.  It recieved a painting merit.  Since this one was so big, it was a big expiriment for me. Parts of it were very frustrating to try to get right.  It all turned out good in the end.
This was my painting for my brother.  He was into tigers at the time and I loved the intensity of the photograph that this was painted from.  This was painted in 2002
This painting is a work in progress.  In the picture there is about 3 hours of work into it.  I am using a lot of extender and gesso with this painting to help blend the colors more like oil.
