Siebe Gorman started making copper and bronze deep-sea diving helmets and equipment in London, England around 1830. They moved to Cwmbran, Wales in 1975. The company stopped making diving equipment in 1994. This light is made of brass with a heavy chrome plating to resist corrosion. It uses 3 D cells and a 6 volt lamp. I assume the 6 volt lamp is used to extend the life of the bulb when run on 4.5 volts. The thick leather strap is riveted on. The "bullseye" lens is very thick and gives more of a floodlight rather than a beam. There is no switch; the bulb lights as soon as the head is screwed on. The 4 prongs are to protect the lens if the light is dropped. This thing weighs over 3 pounds without batteries. |
