An Advent Meditation

In days gone by,
Advent was
a time
of fasting and mortification.
Today, it is
a time
of shopping and anticipation,

when

The nights grow long.
Our hearts yearn for song.
The yuletide feast
reminds human and beast
that our Lord is coming!

The Gospel tells a story of his coming, humbly into this world.
He is revealed by nature and angelic visitations to break the crust of incredulity.
In these days before we celebrate Jesus' coming, let us contemplate this tale that
our own hardness may be softened, and that the light of Christ may shine within us.
