| Impetigo is a highly contagious infection and spreads quickly among children. It can be caught by direct contact or through contact with an item that was used by the infected person. The fluid from the blisters is what spreads the infection to others. The infection spreads more rapidly with the helped of poor hygiene, overcrowded living conditions, and heat. It commonly occurs when bacteria enters the skin through abrasions or insect bites, but can occur in perfectly healthy skin too. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| To help prevent impetigo one should take a shower or bath everyday to keep his or her skin clean. Also, cuts or scrapes in the skin should be cleaned out and covered properly. If one is infected they can prevent spreading by not touching the infected area. Also, personal items should be kept separate from other family members. Those infected should try and stay away from others until the impetigo clears up, especially children. |
