RED SQUADRON [X-wing squadron] Red 1: Garven Dreis - killed by Darth Vader after a failed attempt to destroy the Death Star Red 2: Wedge Antilles - survived, but was forced out of the battle after his X-wing was damaged by Darth Vader Red 3: Biggs Darklighter - killed by Darth Vader while protecting Luke in the trench Red 4: John D - killed during the battle Red 5: Luke Skywalker - survived, and destroyed the Death Star Red 6: Jek Porkins - killed after entering a heavy fire zone Red 7: Elyhek Rue - killed during the battle Red 8: Bren Quersey - killed during the battle Red 9: Lieutenant Naytaan - killed during a surface attack against the Death Star Red 10: Theron Nett - killed while trying to protect Garven Dreis in the trench Red 11: Wenton Chan - killed during the battle Red 12: Gil 'Drifter' Virray - killed during the battle GOLD SQUADRON [Y-wing squadron] Gold 1: Jon 'Dutch' Vander - killed during his trench run by Darth Vader Gold 2: Tiree - killed while protecting Gold Leader during the trench run Gold 3: Ryle Torsin - killed during the battle Gold 4: Lieutenant Lepira - killed during the battle Gold 5: Davish 'Pops' Kreil - killed after aborting his trench run Gold 6: Hol Oakland - killed during the battle Gold ?: Keyan Farlander - survived the battle and escaped back to Yavin IV Blue, Yellow and Green squadrons also took part in the battle, covering Red and Gold squadrons during the dogfights and their runs on the exhaust port.
