| A deadly fanged maw and long, sharp claws connected by a lithe, feline body: the nexu was well-known as a deadly predator, and for good reason. It was thus a favourite in Geonosian venetations, held in the Stalgasin execution arena. Though at least one nexu was kept on Geonosis, and many more on Malastare, the creatures were native to the forested planet of Cholganna. The indiginous nexu came from the continent of Indona, which teemed with forests. A variety of nexu breeds existed there, adapted to the different environments on the planet. Some lived in Indona's forests, while others dwelled in the warmer southern jungles. The forest nexu had a secondary set of eyes which allowed it to view infrared wavelengths - useful when hunting warm-blooded prey such as the abroreal octopi and bark rats of Cholganna. The nexu's most prominent feature, however, was its wide mouth, filled with deadly fangs which it used to bite and shake its prey to death. Its head was surrounded by a golden mane, and the nexu's paws were studded with heavy claws. The forest nexu on Cholganna used its splayed stance to keep broad footing in the leafy canopies. The tail of a nexu was partially prehensile, and split into two long 'fingers'. This forked tail was often used to stabilize the nexu as it hunted, often wrapping around branches to keep balance. Sharp, curving quills ran down the nexu's spin, used to deter aerial attacks. The nexu used in the Geonosian arena was particuarly fierce, as the Geonosians half-starved many of their beasts to make the ensuing execution even more violent. The nexu attempted to kill Senator Amidala, but she managed to evade its claws by climbing atop the pillar that had once bound her. The nexu leaped up at her, digging its claws into the pillar and Padm�'s back. Luckily, she had only been grazed, and was able to knock the nexu back onto the arena floor. Moments later it was killed by the charging reek. The nexu's carcass remained on the ground even as much larger battles began around it. Nexus were not just used as part of spectator sports; nexu were trained for patrol-duty on Malastare, or as guard-beasts - such as the one supposedly owned by Senator Ask Aak. |
