| Though Palpatine had caused a large portion of the Jedi Order to be destroyed during the Clone Wars, he knew the Jedi Knights were still a threat to him and his Empire. Thus, he sent Darth Vader to hunt them down in what would be later known as the infamous Jedi Purges. Vader's first target was a wily Jedi who attempted to gain favour with Palpatine by posing as a Force-sensitive Jedi hunter. He was slain by the Dark Lord soon after. Vader then travelled to the polluted world of Honoghr, where he was able to make the nayive Noghri his slaves, in return for detoxification of their planet - though the pollution itself was actually maintained by the Empire to keep the deadly Noghri as Vader's servants. Lord Vader continued his Jedi hunt, giving rise to many myths and legends of his killings across the galaxy. He supposedly killed an entire colony for harbouring a single Jedi, or he destroyed a transport full of Jedi padawans in order to break their Jedi protector. Whatever stories were true, the truth remained that Vader was not a man to be messed with...even though his black armour and bionic treatment turned him more into a machine, intent on killing. Vader's atrocities extended further than the Jedi. He wiped out thousands of Falleen when a biological experiment broke loose on their planet, and he destroyed a monastery just to stop a simple story getting out. Because of his infamy and power, he had a palace built for him on Coruscant, and a retreat on the planet Vjun. He continued his purge until there were no more Jedi to be found...yet there was one he did not have the pleasure of slaughtering. Ben Kenobi had not been murdered by Vader's hand, and was presumed dead. It seemed as if the Sith Lords had won. |
