During the Great Clone Wars, the Jedi Knights faced one of their most dangerous foes since their battles with the Sith Lords. General Grievous became infamous as the greatest Jedi killer in the galaxy, leaving a trail of death and destruction in his wake.
Grievous - if that was even his real name - was once a humanoid alien, and a warrior of some renown. However, Grievous pushed himself further and harder, eventually giving himself cyborg implants to enhance his already formidable combat skills. These robotic parts came to dominate Grievous's body, until only his piercing yellow eyes were visible beneath the layers of machinery. He often wrapped his body in a long, white cloak, giving him the element of surprise when he revealed his true form to his enemies. Though Grievous preferred to wield blasters in combat - as well as his own deadly robotic limbs - he sometimes fought with a number of lightsabres. He had something of a collection of the weapons, which he took from the bodies of Jedi slain by his hand. He carried multiple weapons on his body, and often used both his arms and his clawed feet to grip them. In combat, he would use his enhanced agility to leap around the battlefield, cutting at grounded foes with his lower sabres, before finishing them off with a well-placed strike at their body. He could spin his arms right around his body, and even stood on his arms to attack with the lightsabres clutched in his feet in some battles. At some point in the first four months of the Clone Wars, Grievous was recruited by Count Dooku, to join the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Dooku realized the power Grievous wielded, and placed him in command of the entire Separatist Army. Controlling the Confederacy's seemingly countless numbers of battle droids, General Grievous's strength grew. Not only was Grievous a deadly opponent in battle, but he also wielded a brilliant tactical mind, unhindered by the failings of a emotion-led living being. Though some battles he orchestrated from a safe distance, he often fought alongside his droid troops - and even held them back to take on his enemies alone. One such battle was on the planet of Hypori. Grievous's troops had downed a Republic assault ship, and surrounded a group Jedi Knights. However, Grievous stopped his droids with a single guesture, and entered combat with the Jedi alone. Of the seven Jedi who battled Grievous, four barely survived, and these possessed skills considered some of the best in the Order. Ki-Adi-Mundi reported this grave new threat to the Jedi Council, though the Jedi seemed powerless to stop the droid General. General Grievous achieved many more victories in the Clone Wars. Seemingly unstoppable, the General began a terrible campaign to strike at the Republic's inner systems. His army stabbed through the Corellian Trade Spine, defeating clone troopers and Jedi alike on many worlds. After the fall of Duro to Grievous's forces, the Republic knew the danger to the Core was deadly serious. Grievous embarked on field missions for the Confederacy up until the end of the Clone Wars, though he also acted as something of a bodyguard for Count Dooku. When Dooku kidnapped Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, the Count's security increased, and Grievous stayed by him as much as possible. He was present onboard the Trade Federation Cruiser - Palpatine's prison - when the Republic began its rescue mission. Two Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, boarded the Cruiser, though Grievous was unable to stop them from rescuing Palpatine - and killing Count Dooku in the process. With Dooku dead, Grievous became the leader of the Confederacy, if only by default. Obi-Wan was dispatched to track down the new Separatist leader, and the two engaged in an epic battle just prior to the end of the Clone Wars. Grievous employed his entire arsenal in the battle, fighting Kenobi with blasters and lightsabres. He even jumped into his personal transport, to lead the Jedi on a daring, dangerous chase. Finally, however, Obi-Wan proved to be more than a match for the Jedi killer. Ironically, it was with Grievous's own blaster that Kenobi delivered the killing blow. |
| Grievous was one of the most talked-about elements of Episode III production. Early on, he was known merely as 'the new bad guy', then the name 'Grievous' was found on the Official Site. Grievous made his debut in the Clone Wars micro-series. His role in the film was kept secret even from the animators. |
