Though many Neimoidians would like to disprove their genetic relations to the Duros, the grub-like species actually evolved from the similarly-featured inhabitants of Duro, calling themselves by a different name, though their heritage was clear.
Not that being related to the Duros was anything to be ashamed of; the races were just too dissimilar personality-wise. The Duros were a gregarious, expressive and adventurous lot, the exact opposite of the greedy, selfish Neimoidians. Duros were also talented workers, having built huge domes on their homeworld to house the species after covering the planet with automated farms, as well as vast starship construction industry. Most Duros are interested in space travel, going off to explore the stars while the rest mostly work within the starship factories orbiting Duro.
The Duros society was formed millennia before the Galactic Civil War, and was highly advanced technologically. Around 25,000 years before the Battle of Yavin, a Duros colony was established on Neimoidia. The settlers began distancing themselves from their parentage over the years, calling themselves Neimoidians, they also started evolving physically; this sister race developed grey skin and dark red eyes, as opposed to the blue skin and bright red eyes of the Duros. Though the Neimoidians became greedy and cowardly, the Duros stayed the same throughout, carrying on their shipbuilding work. However, when the Yuuzhan Vong attacked the galaxy, Duro was attacked by the invaders. Many Duros became refugees as the Vong took over their homeworld, ironically still exploring the galaxy as they had always done, only this time against their will... |
