AMENDSMENTS FOUR, FIVE, SIX, AND EIGHT OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION ARE OFTEN INFRINGED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BECAUSE NOT MANY CITIZENS FULFILL THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES AS CITIZENS. I BELIEVE PEOPLE HAVE A RESPONSIBLITY TO VOTE, WRITE LETTERS TO MEMBERS OF CONGRESS, AND RUN FOR ELECTIVE OFFICE. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN MANDATORY NATIONAL SERVICE. I DO NOT SUPPORT THE DRAFT BECAUSE I BELIEVE NO GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE THE POWER TO FORCE PEOPLE TO DIE FOR IT. IF MORE PEOPLE DO NOT VALUE THEIR FREEDOMS A LOT MORE THAN THEY DO NOW, MANY MORE FREEDOMS WILL BE LOST. MANY FREEDOMS HAVE BEEN LOST IN THE NAME OF SECURITY. I received the following in March 2003. "You are obviously nuts. Anyone who talks about posing nude, running for President, going out with any girl who wants too, and honestly thought he could win the Senate seat and Sununu couldnt, has no grasp in reality. The fact that Smith and Sununu wouldnt debate you had nothing to do with fear, it has to do with the fact that they dont acknowledge you as anything but a nutty candidate, who doesnt stand a snowball's chance. Probably would help if you had any concept of politics, the political process, or policy. Instead you spout out half truths, random thoughts, and not thought out plans. And if you think you stand a chance at the Presidency your dellisional. Mainly because no one has ever heard of you. ALso because your not at all mainstream. Thirdly because George W Bush excites the Republican base unlike anyone has in a while." SOME COMMENTS ON PREVIOUS LETTER One. Delusional is spelled delusional and not dellisional. Two. I do not think there is anything wrong with an adult posing nude. It is a great form of art that goes back several thousand years. Three. I never said I would go out with any girl that asked me. I have turned girls down for dates over the years. My not having a girlfriend is a negative and anyone with an IQ above 50 should realize that it is better to discuss negatives before opponents do. If you do not think so, obviously you have not heard of Gary Hart and President Clinton. President Bush's drunk driving arrest almost cost him the election. I do not expect to meet anyone from the personal ad I have posted. Four. I never thought I could win the Senate race. I said on my website that I thought I would be lucky to receive a 100 votes. I am not surprised that Senator Sununu won because Senator Smith left the Republican party for a while. I received more than 2000 votes. If you think Senator Smith and Senator Sununu discussed the issues in greater detail than I did, obviously you did not visit their websites. I was not able to find Senator Sununu's letter to the Union Leader supporting Trade Promotion Authority on his website. I had to find it at the library. Neither man had the guts to post their positions on the League of Women's website (DNet) before primary election day. I was the only United States Senate candidate from New Hampshire who had information on the website for more than a month. Five. Both Senator Sununu and Senator Smith do not care that Congress is supposed to regulate Commerce with foreign nations. Both support Trade Promotion Authority for the President of the United States of America which is not constitutional because of Article Two which says that the Senate is supposed to provide Advice and Consent on Treaties. Both Senator Sununu and Senator Smith do not care that Congress and not the President of the United States of America is supposed to declare War. Senator Sununu and Senator Smith do not care that President Bush's Administration is denying Amendment Six Rights to citizens of the the United States of America he calls enemy combatants. Six. I do not expect to win the Presidency in 2004. I will be surprised if my name is on any State's ballot. I am running as a write in candidate and many States do not allow write in votes. Seven. My plan for Social Security is the best plan I have read. Eight. I am proud that I am not part of the mainstream. Most Americans show that they do not care about their civil liberties because they usually do not vote in general elections. Most Americans do not care when our Veterans get treated badly. If people think I have spoken half truths, I hope they will let me know via e-mail. Unlike many people who run for elective office, I have discussed my positions in great detail. I am not perfect. I never said I was. I am often wrong. I am running because I want people to think a lot more about the Bill of Rights and the United States Constitution than they do now. That freedom is extended to all aspects of life, including the freedom to not vote! It's one thing to criticize people for their decision to not participate in our Democracy by voting in elections, but it's quite another to advocate that those people be treated as "pariahs", particularly by the very Government that is charged with protecting their freedoms! Everyone in this country deserves fair and equal treatment under the law, whether it be based on people's race, religion, political party, or whatever. It would scare me to vote for someone who so clearly states that government should treat certain people differently. It's important to defend all of our freedoms, including the freedom to be lazy on election day and not show up at the polls! For example, passing a law requiring people to vote would actually damage our Democracy. We would be no different from Iraq, who evidently require voting even when only one person is on the ballot! (100% ... yeah, right!) Dear Writer: Thanks for writing me back. Please pass on the entire e-mails to other people. I have the same standards for Israel and other countries the United States of America supports that I do for countries the United States of America does not support. Like I said. A country has a right to defend itself. If you think it is better to send 100,000 plus troops into a country when assasination will do the trick, you need to realize you are mistaken. If a country never defends itself, it will keep getting attacked. I agree with you that violence when it is not necessary is stupid. As I said in my letter I believe the best way to end terrorism is for the United States of America to have the same standards for all countries Human rights and fair elections or Human rights and/or fair elections missing Right now, I think Israel too often falls into the second category and if Israel does not treat Palestinians better the United States of America will have to rethink trading with Israel and selling Israel military hardware. I agree with you about the fact that the United States of America should not have supported dictators and that the United States of America should not be supporting dictators now. I am glad you will be voting on September 10 and that you will be asking other people to vote as well. You should tell the people the truth about what I have said in this letter and other letters and not distort it like you do in today's letter to me. I never said we should always be violent. The fact of the matter is that if a country is never violent it is not likely to continue to exist. I realize Arafat was elected. I said there would have been peace if he had not been involved. Israel has been able to use him as an excuse for keeping a Palestinian state from existing. When international law makes sense, I support. When it does not, I do not. I support US laws when they make sense. I do not support US laws when they do not. I realize the United States of America infringes on human rights and I am trying to decrease that by discussing the Bill of Rights. I say on my website that citizens of the United States of America who are called enemy combatant are protected by Amendment Six of the United States Constitution. You need to do more research on my website before you talk to other people. Ken Dear Kenneth, Your thoughts are truly frightening. I will not be voting for you and I will be letting others know your views so they don't vote for you either. If the USA has a right to defend itself through assassination so do does any other country around the world. If you make them pay for it they will make us pay for it...the cycle will never end. No matter how powerful a military is it can not stop terrorism. What makes you think the hijackers of Sept. 11 would have changed their mind had the US retaliated for the events you listed? If anything the hijackers would have had even more support if the US had retaliated and killed even more innocent people then they have already killed in the last 15 years. I know 3 people that died on Sept. 11 including my UNH professor and neighbor for years. This does not give the USA a right to kill innocent people overseas nor will such action ever prevent any terror attacks in the future. Israel has been retaliating for years...it has not stopped terrorism one bit....nor will it ever stop terrorism unless they kill every living Palestinian on the planet. On the other hand terrorism in Northern Ireland has for the most part stopped....it did not stop because the British "retaliated" and made the Irish 'pay' did it? Retaliating only kills innocent people just like it did in Afghanistan. The US military killed more innocent people in Afghanistan than were killed on Sept. 11. The number is close to 4000 documented killed by 'collateral damage' (ie. murdered). Those associated with the hijackers escaped or blended in with society. Terrorism can not be stopped with such methods. There is not one example where this has ever worked. You stated "I do not care about international law when international law is idiotic." This is truly a profound statement....I am sure the Nazis didn't care about international law either. Why not add other leaders to this list like the people responsible for killing 2,000,000 Vietnamese or US supported dictators like Pinochet or Somoza? I would prefer that nuclear weapons be banned both in Israel and Iraq....I do not have double standards. Should we assassinate the leaders of India and Pakistan next because they also have nuclear weapons? How about Russia, China, and France too? The USA is the only country in the world to ever nuclear weapons so we are in no position to dictate to the world who or who should not have nuclear weapons as we continue to expand are nuclear weapons programs. Israel is a prime example. Check out Amnesty International's website for proof. The US also supports many dictatorships and has done so for years. You claim to care about fair elections and yet you feel Arafat should have resigned even though he is the only leader in the Arab world that was actually elected by a huge margin with Western observers. This shows that you only care about elections if someone Israel or the USA approves of is elected. Maybe Israel should choose some sort of puppet leader for the Palestinians that will be more willing to ignore UN resolutions and international law just like you. If you really cared about human rights and democracy you would apply the same principles to Israel and other US supported dictators. Writer Dear Writer: There is no double standard. The United States of America has a right to defend itself by any means necessary including assasination. If other countries assasinated our leaders when it was not appropriate, I think we should do what ever is necessary to make them pay for it. I realize the United States of America has assasinated leaders it should not have. I think assasination should not be taken lightly by the United States of America or any other country. After our Marines were murdered in Lebanon, the United States of America did not retaliate the way that it should have. After Pan Am 103 was blown up over Lockerbie, Scotland, we did not retaliate the way that we should have. If we had retaliated the way that we should have, September 11 would probably not have happened. My mother had planned on leaving for Israel from Boston on September 12. If she had picked September 11, she could have been one of the people who died. A professor I knew from UNH died on one of the planes that hit the World Trade Towers. I do not care about international law when international law is idiotic. I care about the United States Constitution and the survival of the United States of America. Too often evil people like Hitler and Stalin are allowed to live and kill millions of people. Too often the world has allowed evil men to kill millions. The Holocaust happened because Europe tried to pacify Hitler and the United States of America was isolationist when it should not have been. Would you prefer that Saddam be assasinated or Saddam having nucsometimes you have to fight and you have to be prepared to fight. I am a student of The Art of War by Sun Tzu translated by General Samuel B. Griffith and I recommend you read it before commenting again on why World War 2 and the Holocaust happened. Both World War 1 and World War 2 would probably not have been fought if the United States of America had been prepared for War. I realize you care about the Iraqi people and I hope someday the United States of America will have very good relations with them. I do not think the United Nations cares about international law now. I think one of the main things the Unied Nations cares about is keeping dictatorships that infringe on human rights in power. Israel has a right to defend itself. I do not think Israel's policies dealing with Palestinians makes any sense. I also think the reason why a Palestinian State does not exist in the Middle East now is because of Arafat. If he had resigned from power years ago, I think a Palestinian State would exist. I believe the United States of America should have two sets of standards Care about countries that have fair elections and human rights. Trade with these countries. Countries that do not care about fair elections and/or human rights. I do not care if we trade with these countries. Too often the United States of America has supported countries like Saudi Arabia that does not have fair elections and human rights. Israel is an ally of the United States of America. I hope Israel will stay an ally of the United States of America. I hope that all countries in the Middle East will care about fair elections and human rights. I hope all countries in the Middle East will be allies of the United States of America. Israel is the way it is now and millions of Jews died during the Holocaust because Britain and Frlear weapons that he could launch on the United States of America? I am not a pacifist. I am a man who realizes that the best wars are those that you win without fighting. I realize ance did not keep their word to create a Jewish state and an Arab Palestine immediately after World War 1. I realize millions of non Jews died during the Holocaust. Israel is a sovereign country and has a right to defend itself by any means necessary like any other country. Israel is about the size of New Hampshire and it is surrounded by countries that are led by people that hate Israel.
