KEN STREMSKY DISCUSSES GLOBAL WARMING AND GLOBAL COOLING There have been periods of global warming and periods of global cooling throughout Earth's history. The Earth was warmer when the dinosaurs ruled the Earth. Ice Ages have also taken place. I expect the next Ice Age to take place within the next ten thousand years and that most of the continental United States of America will be covered in ice. Humans do not currently have much impact on global temperature. The Earth's distance from the sun, the angle at which the sun's rays hit the Earth, the amount of solar radiation that reaches the Earth, and the temperature of the Earth's core cause most of the Earth's temperature variations over time. The oceans also have a significant impact on temperatures on land. The Earth is mostly water and not land. The Earth's ozone layer also has an impact on temperatures. Humans have had some impact on the Earth's ozone layer. Yu may learn more ozone depletion at www.epa.gov. Humans do harm the environment by cutting down rainforests. Humans do pollute the air by using a lot more fossil fuels than they should. Humans also often do not use the most environementally friendly methods to obtain fossil fuels. I support the usage of hydrogen fuel cells. I also think we may need to build more nuclear fission power plants to reduce air pollution. Air pollution is one of the biggest contributors to the high health care costs in our country.
