Ready for the Walk down the Aisle

My eyes anxiously look at the pews in the church.
I twist the engagement ring on my left hand.
Its so quiet, I think, standing alone in my lace gown.
Tomorrow, Ill start a new life with a wedding band.

When I was little, I dreamed of this day.
A fairy princess, Id float down the aisle.
My handsome prince would wait at the alter.
I would wear glass slippers and a beautiful smile.

This isnt the same at all.
Its been patience, excitement, hard work and stress.
My childhood is coming to an end.
Now a new family and name Ill possess.

God, am I ready for this?
To make vows, to be his partner, his wife?
Tomorrow the church will be full,
of friends and family to celebrate our new life.

The sudden urge to flee appears.
My stomach is tied up in knots.
How do people do this every day?
My face feels flushed and so hot.

Just then, hands encircle my waist
Familiar, large, gentle hands,
hes held me close all my life,
and now hell entrust me to another loving man..
