| Traveling Shoes
Her face had lines, that spoke of the roads taken in her life. Each was an adventure. Now she was traveling for the final time. Sand trickles through the hourglass. Her life slips away. Some dreams die unrealized, Yet Earth has been a pleasant stay. Memories of people loved and lost. Life went by so fast. A mystery too wonderful to appreciate, to love, to live, to learn it all. Life started as a blue cloudless sky. As the golden sun shined, A sweet young girl became a woman ripe. The future held hope; bold and bright. She met her love and took vows. They settled in a home built sturdy with love. The sun, rain, and hard work grew the garden. God blessed and guided their life. A few clouds drifted by. Children came, five welcomed gifts. Raindrops of delight filled her eyes, happiness overflowed and spread. Joy was watching her children grow, then bearing children of their own. She could see herself in their eyes, applaud their dreams with sweet surprise. The day came when she lost her love. Her shining knight climbed on a golden horse. Into clouds he rode as she waved good-bye. She knew he knocked on Heaven's door. The sand is almost gone. She whispers, "I'm ready to lay down my weary load. I know God welcomes his children home and I have my traveling shoes on. * By Kathie Stehr June 4, 2004* |
