Love and Courage

He bends his head to kiss my mouth.
I try so hard to meet his lips.
Sometimes we connect, but if we don't
he laughs, "It still counts if we miss."

He calls from work to ask how I am.
I bravely say, "Okay".
The mouthpiece fights with my chin.
He knows the truth anyway.

Looking in his soft blue eyes,
evokes thoughts of sea and sky
I find peace and serenity within.
Invite me in and watch me fly.

When he takes me in his arms,
I hide in the notch of his chest.
If only I could stay there safe,
a baby at it's mother's breast.

We live with this dark shadow in our life.
There is no choice for us.
But with all trouble it can cause,
our love is deep and sealed with trust.

I dedicate this poem, for Valentine's Day in the year 2000, to my soulmate, Kurt. He has watched me wrestle with dystonia for the last 10 years and has been there to pick up the pieces and put me together again. This a very small token of my love. It is deeper than words could ever say.
