The Charm Bracelet

She carefully took it out of the box
And the years unfolded with it
Her first charm was sweet sixteen,
the memories opened as she encircled her wrist.

Theres a cat chasing a silver ball
So many had a place in her home, heart, and soul.
They love you more then people, you know
All they need is a kind word, soft touch, and full bowl.

The tiny, jeweled phone came from her best friend
Talking for hours, sharing from her heart
then too many men, two troubled children
drugs and jail would tear it apart.

Ah, the rollercoaster charm from the local park
His blue eyes, laughing and gay
Vietnam and death were hiding round the corner
but they didnt darken that day

The tiny silver lawnmover came from her brother
His weekly hated chore,
Now, so many years later, he is very well off
With a few acres and a plantation to care for.

The treasure chest was there for the future
To store all her dreams, hopes, and love
For a husband and many babies
All the things a sweet, young girl dreams of

Those days she didnt believe in God
Mom and Dad gave her a mustard seed charm
They knew a few things about faith
And their prayers probably saved her great harm.

Then there is the clover for good luck
Wondering who bought it now, so many years after
But the marriage is good, the kids are allright
And life has offered love, tears, and laughter.

Life has many twists and turns
Hers isnt unique or even special
The longer you live, the more you hope
Youre remembered for being loving and gentle
