 
William Mulhall was born in Bridgeport on July of 1945, the youngest son of Josephine Truchon and Louis Mulhall. As a young man he developed and interest in journalism. While in high school his article entitled "Smoking Endangers Health" won third prize in a state-wide contest and was entered in a national competition. He graduated from high school in 1964. In September of 1965 he began basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He received artillery training in Kentucky and parachute instruction at Fort Benning, Georgia before being sent to Viet Nam. Among his letters home to the family he often wrote about his pet monkey seen in this photo. Political discussion were rarely a part of the letters home except for, perhaps, this one reference: "By helping the people harvest their crops, giving medical attention to their sick, cleaning up their dirt, building schools and roads and housing, ridding them of disease and methods which date back centuries, we are showing these people just where we stand on their behalf..." Following his service in the army, William returned home. Early on the morning of July 31, 1969 the car he was driving crashed into a highway overpass. William was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. He was 24 years old.
