Philosophies & Rules
It is my belief that all students can learn. That doesn't mean that I believe everyone loves school or is willing to learn. However, I believe it is my job to try and reach all of you in the best way I can, and share my love of knowledge and of history. In my classroom, I want students to be active in their learning, not just sitting back passively and absorbing only what I say. I want you, through research and exploration, to develop your own voice and your own answers. I want you to feel confident in your own abilities to produce a quality piece of work, whatever form that may take. I want you to be able to communicate your ideas clearly, both verbally and on the written page. I want you to be able to work cooperatively with others. I want you to be respectful of others and yourself.

In order to achieve all of these things, I expect that the following codes of behavior will be followed:

You will be required to work with others on occasion. I believe that cooperation increases learning, and by working together we can learn each other's strengths. We all have areas in which we are "smart". Some of us are fabulous writers, others are wonderful artists, some can dance and sing, some of you can figure out the square root of 179 in your head. You will be using all of these various "intelligences" throughout the year. Some of the assignments you will excel at and some will be a struggle for you. All will somehow enhance your knowledge of history, but also of yourself. After all, that is what history is all about, the interaction of people.

So be prepared to work, have fun, struggle, meet new people, and LEARN!

Your first assignment was to read over this page and to email me, letting me know that you have seen this website, and that you are aware of the expectations of you this year. Feel free, too, in your email to tell me anything more about yourself. Please share with me now if there are any questions or concerns you have regarding class this year.
