Indian Banking Today & Tomorrow - Project Map

The website has covered a total of 8 projects on the principal subject of Banking, for which it is primarily devoted. Of the eight projects three will be main projects and the remaining five are ancillary projects linked to two of the main projects.

The main projects are-

  1. Indian Banking Today & Tomorrow
    Describes the phase of transition in Indian Banking during the period immediate after the Banking Reforms, i.e. the period from 1991-92 to the period 1998-99.

  2. Indian Banking in the New Millenium
    The rapid strives that we are witnessing in Indian Banking since 1999-00 on account of the impact of the ongoing reforms. For more details view the project Map for this project

  3. Banking Theory & Practice
    This devotes to discussing descriptive/theoretical aspects of Indian Banking as seen in the present days. The project forms part of the learning circle. While the resources under the first and second projects are intended for practising bankers to update their knowledge & information about Indian Banking, the project under Learning Circle is intended to gain basic knowledge about banking theory and practice for students of Management studies in India with Banking as a subject for specialisation and as a reference source for new entrants to the banking organization. Indian Banking Today & Tomorrow

The project consists of 8 modules covering articles on different subjects. The details are as under:

  1. Crisis In Management Of Banks In India (Post 1985 period) - Covering -3 articles.
    Traces the economic crisis of the late Eighties culminating in the year 1991 and remedial measures instituted by way of Reforms. Also describes the contemporary developments in International Banking since the Eighties, when Indian Banking remained cut off and captive.

  2. Financial & Banking Sector Reforms - 8 articles
    Discusses in detail the financial and banking sector reforms under the reports of the first and second Narasimham committee and the earlier Sukkmoy Chakravarthi & Vagul Committee reports.

  3. Capital Adequacy Standards - Basel Accord,1988 - 4 articles
    The standards on capital adequacy, asset classification and provisioning norms were implemented by Indian Banks as per directives of the RBI in the year 1992, as recommended by Basel Committee accord of 1988. The Basel Committee started considering revision of the standards in the year 1999. The module deals with these and also has an article about the Bank of International Settlement at Basel

  4. Basel Committee on Banking Supervision - The New Basel Capital
    Accord (BASEL II) (11 articles)

    Basel Committee has released third consultative document (CP3) on 30.04.2003 and called for comments thereon before 31.07.2003. The accord is to be finalised before end of DFecember 2003 and to be implemented by december-end 2006. The module discusseste revised draft proposals and the issues relevant to the implementation of the new Accord by Indian Banks

  5. Performance Assessment of Banks - 3 articles
    The standards of Capital Adequacy & Asset Classification have brought forth the urgent need for improving profitability and ensuring efficiency and cost effectiveness of banking operations. The module covers articles dealing with parameters for grading the performance of commercial banks in the changed environment.

  6. Credit Information Bureau Ltd. (CIBL) - 3 articles
    Customers deal with different banks and institutions and banks earlier had no source to know about their overall credit information and standards of dealings. The Credit Information Bureau is the solution to overcome this drawback. The articles in the module describes about the setting up of CIBL and its structure and operations

  7. NPA the Unbridled Virus and an Emerging Challenge to Indian Banking System - 7 articles
    Exhausticvely analyses the different dimensions of the problem of Non Performing Assets confronting Indian Banks and Financial Institutions.

  8. NPA in Indian Banks - Review at the end of A Decade (1992-93 to 2001-02) - 6 articlesv
    Describes the different corrective steps and recovery measures initiated on the recommendations of Government of India and Reserve Bank of India and the results secured at the end of a decade after appearance of this menace.

  9. Prudential Norms on Income Recognition, Asset Classification and Provisioning Pertaining to the Advances Portfolio
    - 10 articles

    Lists prudential norms in detail as provided in RBI Master Circular on the subject updated on 30.06.2002

  10. Supervision of the Indian Financial System by Reserve Bank of India - 7 articles
    The banking reforms entrusted RBI with additional regulatory responsibilities, after decontrol and deregulation of the banking industry. RBI in turn choose to separate its functions of supervisory responsibility from that of the money control and other functions as the Central Bank of the country. An autonomous Board of Banking Supervision is created by RBI internally. The module deals with the structure and functioning of the system of supervision by RBI in the deregulated environment
