Observing the Water Cycle

  1. Warm water will be passed out in clear cups.
  2. Place the provided empty cup immediately on top of the other cup (as shown). The two rims should meet and then be taped together.
  3. Have one partner turn on the lamp while the other partner puts the provided ice cubes on the top of the upside-down cup.
  4. Observe and answer the following questions with your partner.

 

What do you see? Give a detailed description!

 

Why is the ice needed? How is this like the real water cycle?

 

Why does the water at the bottom have to be warm? What usually warms the water in the real water cycle?

 

 

Draw a picture of the miniature water cycle. Label where you see precipitation, condensation, and evaporation.
