Well it was about time us Mexicans got together, and with time off over Christmas, and also that fact that Dave (Blue Zx9r) was coming to Melbourne, we thought we would organize a ride...somewhere.
Well, the original intention, was to go to Kinglake and the Spur onto Marysville, Reefton to Warburton and then the Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd... But, but, but on the day, as we all arrived at Sth Melbourne Maccas it was forecast to be 35°... too hot!!
Who arrived ...eventually? Me (Ian) GPX750r, Dan (Zx2r and who was late!) Mario (Zx6r), Ronster (ZZR1100) and son Dean as pillion, Dave (Blue Zx9r) who had brought a friend Lee (Honda CBR250) and her brother Jason (Honda CBR600F4)... Hondas!! But oh, well the more the merrier!
Discussion re the weather and what it would be like outta Melbourne...no lets try another route and the suggestion was along the beach all the way to Portsea and a scratch (views what views?) up and down Arthurs Seat. So we all started off from Maccas out to Beach Rd, after seeing Mario leave his sunnies on his seat and Dave picking 'em up off the road..
The cruise down the beach took us onto Marine Pde at St Kilda (oops watch the RAV 4 with the camera) with lots of noise from this group acruisin'. Down round the bends at Elwood, the curves at Black Rock and after the roundabout at Mordy, off to Frankston and watch the (next) camera in the white wagon at Carrum! Keep the speeds down and noise levels up. Off to Mornington, still in cruise mode, “Hey the highway speed limit is 90”, and open the throttles down to the main street of Mornington with LOTS to look at and then a stop for a stretch & smoko at Mt Martha.
After the Esplanade at Mt Martha on the bay, a good bit of twisty road for some cornering practice brought us to Dromana and the run up Arthurs Seat. Another stop at the top and the decision to go to Portsea for lunch and sit at the pub by the water. But it was not to be... after the run down Arthurs Seat, where the leader (Ian) missed the turn to the freeway and having to do a Uey, a hispeed blat along the freeway, we got to the end to go to Portsea, to find the traffic going NOWHERE..clogged..stationery!.. Do Uturn and head back to Rosebud to the pub there for lunch and a drink and a relax...then back the way we came with a stop at Frankston at the bottom of Olivers Hill and off back towards Melbourne, to see Jason and his sister Lee split with us at Edithvale to ride home and the rest of us avoiding getting breathalyzed at Mordialloc (the copper waved us 5 bikes thru, for some reason) and Ian peeling off at Elwood to go home.
The others had one more stop and this time, with no Dave to save him Mario again left the sunnies on the seat and rode off...
A good day for all ('cept Mario), no fines, no crashes sunburnt noses (yep it got to 34°) and just a good day out...
