Pets
Animals are a big part of our life.  We have two dogs and two cats that share our home (or we share theirs, were not sure which!).  Our beagles, Abby and Ella, are great with kids.  In fact, the neighborhood children often ring our doorbell and ask politely if Abby and Ella can come out to play!  Our two cats, Sadie and Penny, are also good with kids.  They patiently put up with an amazing amount of tail pulling, unintentional body slams, and curious hands that are not as gentle as they could be.  We are glad that our child will always have an animal friend to talk to and play with.

As an interesting side note, all of our pets are named after Beatles' songs.  See if you can guess each pet's name sake!
Abby lazing away in the sun. Penny enjoys napping anywhere he can find a peaceful spot.
Penny was our first pet.  He was a wedding present from Natalie's cousin.  We brought home our cat and named it Penny because we thought it was a girl.  Several weeks later we noticed that Penny was most definitely not a girl!  However, it was too late for a name change.  The name Penny stuck and we get a good laugh out of the story anytime someone asks!
Sweet Abby was our first dog.  She was originally a hunting dog, but was beaten and dumped on the side of the road when she began to go blind and was no longer useful on the hunt. We adopted her and proved that love can move mountains.  Now instead of cowering whenever people come near, she happily wags her tail and goes to investigate each new visitor to see if maybe they might have a treat for her!
Sadie proudly wears a Christmas bow because she truly believes she is the best gift anyone could ever receive!
Ella snuggled up on the couch.
Sadie was also adopted from the humane society and once again we marveled at how anyone could give up such a friendly animal.  Sadie defies the mentality that cats are aloof and independent.  She would much rather be wherever there are people to pet her than anywhere by herself!
We adopted Eleanor from the humane society.  It's hard to imagine why anyone would abandon such a wonderful dog. She is the life of every party and unlike Abby she has never met a stranger!  Ella just can't imagine why petting her isn't everyone's top priority!

Kyle and Ella napping on the couch.
Amazingly, all of our animals get along beautifully together.  They all love to be snuggled and sometimes there are pushing matches if there is a shortage of space next to us on the couch!
Natalie particularly loves to cuddle the animals while she watches TV or grades papers on the couch.
Don't be deceived, Kyle likes to snuggle with the pets just as much as Natalie.  If the truth be told, Ella is really Kyle's dog.  Those two love to nap together on the couch.  Ella crawls right up on his belly and there they sleep for hours!
Ella and Abby playing in the living room.
Penny peeking out of Kyle's dresser (now the baby's dresser!). This time we caught him before we shut the door!
It might appear that all our animals do is sleep, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. They certainly manage to get into their fair share of mischief. Abby and Ella enjoy having games of chase around the house and evenings almost always bring a wrestling match or two!
The dogs aren't the only ones who can get themselves into trouble.  The cats may be little, but pound for pound they can sure shake things up! Both Penny and Saddie have the tendency to jump inside any dresser drawer or cabinet that is opened when we aren't looking and hide in the back.  This little trick of theirs always scares Natalie to death!
