| As part of our ongoing commitment to Steam in the Pacific Northwest, the Kalispell Southern is hosting the biggest event of it's kind to date, Essex Steam Fest 2005! Steam Locomotives from across North America and the globe will converge on the Izzak Walton Inn at Essex, Montana November 6th-12th. An all star steam cast is being assembled and we're very pleased with the response. The Kalispell Southern is leading the way with it's ambassador locomotive Kalispell Southern 2-6-2 5473, and with her larger stablemate NP 4-8-4 2661 pulling a recreation of the famed North Coast Limited from the Stetler Steam Shops at Athol, ID. From Whitefish the KS is surging both of it's 2-8-4 C&0 2716 and NKP 763,, doubleheaded with a supersteam freight consist. From th east and the west, mighty horses of iron will tackle the stiff grades of Marias Pass. No diesel helpers will be allowed for this trip, so steam rules the day. All day excursions and the delights of Western Montana await our guests as they explore how the steam locomotive changed the face of history! We'll keep you posted here with more details! |
