Joshua Mecham & Permelia Chapman
Joshua Mecham (first man to change the spelling of Meacham to Mecham)
Born:       12 April 1773 Lyme, New Hampshire
Died:        8 Oct. 1846  Bonaparte, Lowa (age 73)
Married:  5 April 1793 Canaan, New Hampshire
First a Methodist before he moved to Mercer Pennsylvainia where he came in
contact with the Mormon missionaries and was converted.
He was a successful man until a mob burned all his possessions
Baptized: Spring of 1837
Helped build the city of Nauvoo and the Nauvoo Temple.
Endowed and Sealed in the Nauvoo Temple 25 December 1845 (Christmas Day)

Permelia Chapman
Born:     25 Jan 1777 Hanover, N. London, Connecticut
As a Pioneer she arrived in Salt Lake Valley the Fall of 1850 (at age 73)
She came west with friends. Permelia was the Mother of nine children
She saw the bodies of the martyred Prophet Joseph and brother Hyrum
Did proxy Temple work for many of her family members before she was driven from
her home in Nauvoo
Died:      19 May 1866 Heber, Utah (at age 89) (No headstone has been found yet)

1 Joshua and Permelia joined
the church in the spring of 1837
2 In 1838 they gathered with the saints in Missouri, but were stopped by a mob who would not let them cross the Mississippi river at Quincy.
3 Suffering many persecutions, driven from place to place, They hid in the woods with their son and grandchildren and watched an angry mob burn homes and all possessions to the ground.
4 Joshua was one of the "Bodyguards"
for the Prophet Joseph Smith
  5 Joshua and Permelia were Endowed and Sealed in the Nauvoo Temple 25 Dec 1845(Christmas Day) and were part of the exodus from Navuoo and suffered from hunger & cold
6   Ill-prepared for the arduous journey west, stopping to find food along the way, they reached Bonaparte, Iowa
where Joshua died from exposure
at the age of 73.
7 Permelia a Widow 4 years ,at the age of 73, was the first of the Mechams to reach the Salt Lake Valley in the fall of 1850.
One year before any of her sons.... She lived with friends until her son Edward came in 1851.
She lived in Lehi, Provo, Heber & Wallsburg Utah with each of the four sons who joined the church and came to Utah.

can be obtained. But it is belived that Permelia is buried here.
