INTRODUCTION

 

The Philippines is well known as a country of fiestas and festivals, whether religious or cultural. It is a showcase of the well known Filipino hospitality and very deep religious beliefs of the people. However diverse it may be, we should take pride of our cultural heritage as it is a part of being a true Filipino.

 

The Task

 

You will work in groups of four members each. You will research on a festival whether it is religious or cultural. Your objective is to write an essay about the early beginnings of the festival, why it is held, when it is held, and what province, town or city is holding it.

 

You will present your research using StarOffice presentation. Be sure to include a picture of the festival as well as a map detailing the location of the place where the festival is held.

 

The Process

 

To successfully carry out your task, the following simple steps will guide you on what you are supposed to do:

1. Within your group, divide the work among yourselves and agree on the      different responsibilities in developing the group’s final output.
2. Each individual in your group will do any of the following: researcher, encoder for the presentation, assistant encoder and a reporter.
3. Organize a notebook to record all your materials for your work and a short brown envelope to keep your picture and the geographical map.
4. You must complete your research within the first grading period.
5. Your presentation will be composed of a title page, the map page, the essay page, the picture of the festival page, the source page acknowledging the site where you got your research and lastly the page listing the members of your group and their respective responsibilities, in that order.

      7.   Once all information has been gathered, encoders must be ready to put it

             together using StarOffice presentation.

      8.   Save your finished product in a diskette and be sure you have a back-up

            copy saved in another diskette and in the hard disk of your pc.

 

Evaluation

 

Each group member will be given an individual grade as well as group grade.

 

Group members will be graded individually on the following:

• the fulfillment of his/her job
• the quality of material included in the brochure
• content, organization and mechanics of essay
• creativity
• neatness of the final output

 

Group grade will be based on:

• overall appearance of the final output
• collaborative effort made in completing the output
• fulfillment of the project criteria

 

Rubrics will be handed out in the classroom and will be discussed by the teacher. Questions pertaining to the project must be raised during the discussion for clarifications.

 

Conclusion

 

By completing this webquest, you have worked well as a group in obtaining knowledge about our cultural heritage. Learning about our own festivals as well as the festivals of other regions of our country will enrich your own understanding and appreciation of the Filipino culture, thereby making you feel proud of being a PINOY through and through.
